Always Learning! 242 Ball Nuts

Post by Murff »

Working on a few 242s today and noticed something different about one of the ball nuts. I have seen brass and aluminum but this was the first I can recall being made of steel!

L to R: Brass, steel and aluminum!

Anybody else ever see a steel one?

Wow. I knew about the steel and brass. Not aluminum. And Toby, I forgot how cool that 242 was. Niiiice

Is the burner chamber cast steel? Why would they do steel instead of iron?

The mixing chamber could be iron I suppose, I just checked to see if it was magnetic as the earlier and later 242s were a brass casting. I believe this burner is identical to the 243s that predated it besides the vent stud.
