Ripped off by a little old lady

#1

Post by ecblanks »

Was out on vacation last week in the mountains, and of course had to do some picking.
I stopped at no less than 10 places; antique stores and what not, and found very little (a lot of "fake" antiques"). I found one over priced iron and a filling can for an iron that I had no interest in.
One of the last places I stopped was a tiny little thrift shop that specializes in women's stuff, but as I was about to leave saw a 200A (5/68) sitting on the floor; definitely out of place.
I didn't see a price tag on it so I asked the little old lady running the register how much. She said "is there not one on there"? then said she thought it was $15 but that that sounded high. So I said $10, and she said ok.
Got it home, cleaned it up a little and lit it and that's when I noticed the "$3" written on the globe in marker (maybe a $8,you can see it in the pic). So yeah, that little old lady ripped me off :D

Anyway it lit up nicely. It had a #20 mantle with a hole in it, so I replaced that. Also somebody had over torqued the frame nut and squashed the collar but I straightened that out. Still haven't replaced the cap gasket yet but it's holding, but I suspect will be destroyed when I get the cap off.

The lantern was $3, but you offered $10. Don't blame her for your reverse negotiation skills. :)

I've done "ok" at them, but what I have never found is a lantern at a yard sale. Granted i don't get out to them very often, but mostly just a bunch of used lacrosse equipment around here.

Getting ripped off like that can ruin the hobby. Try not to brood over it.
