Another good knife.

#1

Post by Weirdnerd »

I had a gift card I was not using, so I decided to get myself a decent camping knife, good bang for the buck, this knife is good steel ( 1066, similar to spring steel) , decent size, and rugged. I was not planning on buying a boutique knife, I use this puppies for lots of things while camping, and this one came with a ferro rod.

If you need a Sun Flame Generator Model 100-107 ( for Sunflame lanterns models 105, 106, 107 and 110) give me a PM, I have close to 80 of those, 15 bucks each.

I've been eyeing one of those BPS knives for a while. I don't need another knife, but you know how that goes. For the price they are a darned good knife with a very nice leather sheath.

I have a couple home made, but they feel too nice to take camping 🤣.

This one seems sturdy and if I mangle it batoning, does not hurt that much.

Here are my homemade ones:.

For the price of the knife, sheath and ferro rod, I could not buy the sheath alone. Price is ridiculously good.

Nice. My last camp knife purchase was from Finland. Was a really good deal when I bought it. Prices have gone up a bit since then.

This BPS looks like a good deal.

With a sheath (I assume it loops on a belt) that would be a great camping knife. Simple and solid.

Keep in mind that these aren't made to last a lifetime, just the life expectancy of the soldiers they are handed out to.

1066 is a less than ideal alloy that you'll want to keep oiled. And, as with all easy to sharpen blades, they also wear faster.

Not the worst blade for the money (it is a good deal), but most definitely in the lower tiers.

Any knife requires care, be it a 800 bucks or 40 bucks, personally I would not spend 800 bucks on a knife.

I've seen videos where guys have etched the blade with vinegar for example to prevent rust. Also the handles are easily removed to be modified if needed. And yes, not MIC. A huge plus for me.

I'm a fan of high carbon blades.
Yep , they need touched up often.
A fine file can straighten an edge quick too.

Real hard steels take time to get a good edge back on. Seem too brittle for me too.
Purty colors. Well , cept'n maybe that brown when it's on fire...

They have several good looking knives. I’m not sure I’ve ever bought a new knife that wasn’t a gerber, and honestly have grown to dislike them. I can’t get a good edge on one to save my life. Maybe I should try one of these.

Wouldn’t mind having one of those. It appears to be somewhat of a clone of an Ontario Rat.

I wandered into "that reddit thing" a while back, all innocent and naive. Found it was a minefield...

Do NOT take candy from strangers or enter a reddit sub(?) Called knives. It's a trap! Soon all of your Coleman money will.be locked up in knives that you do NOT need🤨
