Kenmore (Sears) heater wick?
Kenmore (Sears) heater wick?
My Kenmore branded kero heater needs a new wick. I think it's the Perfection 500--currently out of stock at Miles Stair's, but I'm not sure. I thought MS listed the ID and OD of their wicks, but if so, I can't find it.
Mine is 2 1/8" OD, 2 1/2" ID.
If anyone has one or knows where to get one, let me know.
TIA--

Can someone at least let me know if the Perfection 500 wick will fit, using dimensions above?

Re: Kenmore (Sears) heater wick?
Is that the heater that looks like the old perfections? Or is it a more modern.
I'll go measure a wick.

I'm confused (happens a lot anymore) the OD is smaller than the ID?

Uh, senior moment. 2 7/8" OD, 2 1/2" ID.Majicwrench wrote: ↑Thu Dec 08, 2022 6:11 pm I'm confused (happens a lot anymore) the OD is smaller than the ID?
Like the one Quick Cal posted--but what is that? Perfection 500?
Mine is shaped like a Perfection, but styled like a big, black tin can. Purely utilitarian. Real Perfections go for hundreds around here on the rare occasion I find one. I think I've seem two at sales so far.

Re: Kenmore (Sears) heater wick?
That's just standard Perfection 500 wick. If you can't find any I probably have a couple downstairs.
Perfections are cheap up here. I would much rather have a tin can than one of those glass things. I sold mine, tippy, gonna break someday, kind of a glaring light.

Yeah, Keith, I'd sure like to buy one of the mantles! Mine's completely done and it's COLD in the shop!
PM me with details.
Thanks!

Re: Kenmore (Sears) heater wick?
Just in time! It's been freezing in the shop lately--it's primarily heated by waste heat from our 1,200 gallon water heater and very poorly insulated.
I got a new wick from Keith--thanks, man--and got it installed today.

Considering that the Perfection 500 wick is out-of-stock at Miles Stairs, I think I'll see if I can get another 1/4" or so out of the old one by moving the collar down. I might not be able to burn the last few oz.s of fuel in the fount, but still....

You've got the right idea. On some Jap kero heater I have/had, I moved the collar down a bit and it worked great.
Glad you're staying warm!

Cool picture and nice that you got the heater up and running. Been chilly down here as well.

Insulation is cheap, rattle the boss's cage for some foil backed insulation so you don't have to sheetrock it...

Yeah, I've been slowly getting it insulated whenever we have some left-over foam insulation. Still one wall to go, and several places that I'll have to remove shelving, etc. to insulate the walls. You'd think after 20+ years in the shop I'd have gotten around to it.
It's 14F outside right now and I'm really appreciating the heater!
