ordering parts from ocp

Post by Harlan »

I just spent a huge amount of time trying to order a large amount of spare parts from ocp . I've ordered from them many times . That @#%&$ site wouldn't let me check out , accept a message or help in any way . It wouldn't let me even contact them . Feeling very frustrated with a very user unfriendly site

Patience, my friend, patience... Mike seems to have a very slow server. Right now, I'm seeing a half-second or more lag between typing and seeing what I typed.

I haven't had that issue with OCP, but have on a couple of occasions with other sites. In my case, I found that it was the browser flaking out. I can't remember if I resolved it with opening a new tab or using another browser.

I hope CCF does not become a platform of complaint. A PM or email to the owner would probably be better.

I have met the owner of OCP, Cigar Mike, on a couple of occasions, and he is a real great guy. Perhaps you could give him a nice phone call, and order your parts by phone.

Being you have ordered from OCP many times, all the more reason to not become frazzled. A direct phone call, (not via website), will cure all!

Seconded. The site denied an order on me once, I called, he looked it up and processed it manually.

Only purchased from Mike a couple of times But both have been fast, easy, and pleasant transactions.
Not to mention that the last order came with a bonus part enclosed.
We are lucky to have OCP as a trusted resource.

I definitely agree that the website is slow and not user-friendly. But I understand that it's probably not financially possible for ocp to have a redesigned website. I have noticed, however, that the website runs significantly slower than it did before. I don't know if mike operates his own server, or uses a paid service. If it's a paid service, it's probably a good time to switch servers, as it seems that the current service is degrading. Either way, ocp is indispensable to us. My orders have usually been completed very fast, and every few orders he sends me an extra of some sort. Great customer service, not so great website.

I wouldn't know if OCP is slow or not, I'd assume it is my 14 year old Gateway and my slow dialup. I called once and left a message, no call back, was finally able to order online that one time only. Most of my orders have been shipped pronto, very surprised how quickly they get to me.

OK , I'm back and cooled off . I owe everyone an apology . I'm a computer idiot . I own a flip phone . I think electricity is a form of voodoo . I'm a mechanic who likes old things like me . I wish I had just grabbed this machine and thrown it out the window . I would have enjoyed fixing the window more than this apology .
I've spent the last 15 years of my life trying to devote myself to love and kindness and today I have riled so many other hearts to anger ...... Truly sorry . I broke my own rule " Never speak when you are angry , Satan has you right where he wants you ".
I had spent a long time researching all the different models and their part #'s for a large order of spare parts to complete several projects . After spending well over an hour at it , I must of clicked something wrong and it put me into a never ending loop of rejection . I blew a gasket .

I'll get my wife to do it from now on .

Harlan--Now worries! We all have our moments, and you're good enough to admit it. I, too use a flip-phone after nearly twenty years of no phone--forced on me by my employer. The screen no longer works, which means no address book and no text messages--which is the way I like it.

I had one on-line order from OCP go awry. I called Mike, he pulled it up on his computer and it was on its way that afternoon! I've nothing but good things to say about my experiences with Mike, be it on-line, e-mail, or phone.

Harlan...

Glad you worked out the frustration. I am an IT systems analyst and my Military customers regularly pop their check valves when the systems let them down.
it happens to everyone... I WISH my customers came around like you just did. My career would be so much more enjoyable if they would.

IF you have already created an account your choices will be waiting for you in your cart.
if not, then your cookies cache may have it as well.

so, when you do login again, see if they are in the cart or a notice to pick up where you left off. If not create an account with the store before you go shopping.
then add the items to the cart as you go. once complete review your cart and remove anything you changed your mind about and then check out.
the server is there to work for you, if you tell it to.

One of the best parts about this forum to me is the level of respect that is shown To people even when differences of opinion pop up. It makes this new hobby so much more enjoyable. I am a member on other sites where such courtesies are not given. Thanks very much to all of you.

Amen to that. Heck, my octogenarian neighbor still carries a "bag phone" - remember those? He's the mellowest man I know.

Glad you talked yourself off your ledge, Harlan. Appreciate your mea culpa. Not enough of that in the world.

Clearly, Cigar Mike has his fans here - he's done all of us a solid favor at his own expense more than once and we are grateful. Having said that, "let he who is without sin cast the first stone", right? We've all blown a gasket at some point. So, water under the bridge and all that, ok?

Also, Curly's suggestion to check your basket and cookies may solve your problem after all. Hope it works out for you, sir.

For some reason I have same problem. Can never get the "code" you have to type in to prove you are not a robot to be accepted. So... I just call Mike. Great Guy. I suspect it is something with the setting of my computer and I keep forgetting to ask my son to look at this issue.

Anyway... Mike is great!

I love OCP! I put items in my wish list until I have built up a pretty good order. Then I pop them into the cart, pay with paypal, and a few days later the package arrives. I often forget what I ordered so I feel like a little kid on Christmas opening my present to see what cool things I got.
