I have always loved these gas Coleman lanterns.
I bought 2 from a guy on Craigslist.
A red model 200A and a twin green 220.
Both are working excellent with fresh fuel and new mantles.
My concern is the red head is noisy.
If has a rushing air sound. A little bit like a jet engine sound!

Am I missing something? The 220 is as quiet as a church mouse.
Both are working perfectly, just one is loud.

The 200's can be louder. If it's really loud, check to see if the burner screen is missing. You should be able to see the burner through the mantle with a good flashlight.

Edit: Welcome to the forum from north Jersey.

Flammable liquids, open flame, what could go wrong?

Seems to me that 200s are a little louder than 220s, but not even close to a milspec or a big hat Higgy.

It looks like I’m missing the burner screen.
Can I purchase one from you fine folks?

As Karen pointed out, our host has the screen. However, I would first check the end of the cap where the screen goes to see if there's enough material to hold it in. The screens don't normally 'fall out'. If you need a replacement cap, here's a link:

I once had one as Jim described, I think it was steel. The lip that holds the screen in, was disintegrated. I replaced it with the bass burner cap like the one OCP sells.

My 200A is just a straight pipe.
There is an “hourglass” metal pipe
that the mantle ties to.
But no screen to be found.

These POS Lanterns, you would think it would be
As good as February 1972.
Can’t buy anything anymore, won’t last ?

Maybe you should try to post a good picture of the missing screen site in the burner. "just a straight pipe" and “hourglass” metal pipe sounds strange in the same description.

I'm betting someone put a millspec burner cap on it instead of the 200a cap. That would cause the noise and explain the missing screen.

Hello Guys,
I bought a used burner cap from another enthusiast today.
I installed it and BAM, no more jet engine sound.
Appreciate all the help you guys gave me.

I spent 100 today on more Coleman gas stuff.
Old 1946 stove, 1966 heater and 2 more model 200 lanterns.

Is there any hope for me?

I'm afraid not. You're on a slippery slope and the brakes are failing.
