Re: Milspec Mutant

What you show is beyond the positive shutoff in the pump. If the check valve and air stem are both properly seated, it won't leak once the pump is closed. The check valve itself should keep any fuel backflow to a minimum anyway. And, that snorkel tube isn't even a standard feature of many other make...

Economy. Fatter generator takes longer to foul up and need replaced. In the '30s this was a big deal, not so much by the '70s. And, for what it's worth, the 247 was made alongside the 249 for most of its run.

I have a Primus no. 1 that needs a flame spreader and trivet (as well as a general rebuild kit). I want to put an order together from Julian's; he has stuff listed for "large" and "small" stoves, and I don't have other Primus stoves to compare. So, which would a no. 1 be? Thanks,

If it runs for a few hours before doing this it's probably down on pressure too. Kerosene plus low pressure plus lack of heat equals a mess. Overburning will tell you whether you want the smaller tip.
The other reason the 220J takes to conversion better than the F is the mixing chamber. The J's pancake burner traps heat from below, keeping everything nice and hot for the kerosene vapor.
