Patents are only good for 20 years if you maintain them. I'm pretty sure all these stoves are over 20 years old and therefore have no patent protection. A copyright lasts for 70 years but I don't think you can copyright a stove.

I think you nailed it, the leather is a grip for the cap. Might come in handy in cold weather.

You want a 413G tank. Same gen and valve, the tank assemblies are interchangeable. That is the big advantage of the D as those 413G tanks are easy to find.

The lantern will run on kerosene if you preheat the generator before lighting so there was no damage done. Man, this comes up on here quite often and the answer is LEADED GAS. That stuff will clog a standard 220 gen in a font full. It is really nasty stuff. It will also clog burner tubes and screens.

I just checked my 200A collection and I have a 11/79 with no coating and a 6/80 with coating. So it looks like it was 1980 before they started with the coatings. Maybe a few people could check there stock to confirm.

Ya Jim, that's where I'm at. For those of you that don't know the first Coleman coatings where pretty bad and will not hold up to unleaded gas. It would be nice to know when the coatings became unleaded friendly.

The generators are pretty much the same as most other coleman lanterns. The one thing about the 288 type lanterns is they must have very clean fuel as they have a couple of small ports in the F/A tube that are critical to there operation.

There were definitely 3 piece caps on some 73 200a's. They might have found a few cases in the back and decided to use them, who knows. In any case there was no specific date that the switch was made. I have not seen a 74 with a 3 piece cap.
