Picked up these 2 yesterday off a C-list ad. Was only interested in the Mil Spec. Seller told me there was a hole in it and was only for display. Told him I would pass but then he offered it for free if I bought the 220.  Sold!
My first Mil Spec.   Holey Moley, look at that fount! Must have been stored with water or acid in it!
Guess I'll be posting a WTB for a fount soon or else it gets parted out.   Think I did OK at $15 for the pair. All the panes are good, funnel attached, vent is mint and there are even some spare parts in the well (did not do a full check yet). The 220 even has 2 packs of new mantles attached. It had pressure in it too! Wouldn't be too surprised if that one fires right up as there is fuel in it.

Oh man. Bummer on the milspec, but the 220 is nice

Someone used a regular nut to fasten the vent down. Appears they tightened it as hard as they could with a wrench.  Lots of chipped off porcelain around the nut. The rest of the 220 should clean up nice, though.

Hmmmm...
I'm thinking transfer the vent, collar, quad glass, and funnel and chains to the 220. Leave the burner though, the 220 is better...

That was question I was going to ask.   Will the Mil Spec upper components fit a 220 fount? Wasn’t sure if threads same on bung.

I’m gonna get the hacksaw and do a cross-section on that Mil Spec fount at some point. Will share pics for educational purposes when I do.

Sure they'll fit. The 220 burner is just better in every way unless you like the noise

If you decide to part it out I would be interested in the funnel and chain and wrench and pricker tools if there is any. Let me know

That fount looks like it underwent a 30-30 Win-ectomy. Maybe .308/7.62x51 NATO-ectomy.

Thats a shame on the mil-spec. It would be great if you could get a fount for it. But if you decide to part it out I could use the pump, well cap and the collar.

Well, Steve, a free MilSpec for parts is OK.  Maybe your next one will be missing the parts well cover, which can sometimes be hard to find.

Was a little bored last night and out in the garage giving the newly acquired 220 a look over. I could tell the pump leather needs oiling as barely adding air to fount. Mantles still intact. What the heck, lets see what happens. Whadaya know, she's off and  running in as-found condition with God only knows the age and type of fuel in the fount. I do know it did not smell all that great when I removed the cap. Gotta love it. A.jpg

I'm glad someone here got them. I reached out to the seller a week or more ago trying to coordinate a purchase, knowing that I was going to be up in that area. Unfortunately, I didn't hear from him till much later. I really just wanted the Milspec for parts. It's been crazy lately, Ive been seeing a lot of milspecs for sale. I missed out on some, but did grab a '52 and a '75. My first ones!

Even with the trashed fount, just having all those hard to find parts from the rest of the lantern is quite a bonus!  Heck, one used glass pane alone goes for $11.

That is what you asked for.  After seeing the pics, I hope that's not a serious question.  🙂

@JimL@ Well,  that was a serious question. I mean, if i had a lantern where one side of the fount was perfect, and the other has rust holes in it, I’d grab a wrecked vent and slice and dice it.

I can say that this lantern has served a far more useful life in educating collectors.  For example, it can be hard to explain the F/A tube workings with the valve stem open a 1/4 turn versus full open.  Looking at the pics gives the 'ah ha' moment.

Greetings, Duane.    I’m pretty close to you, just outside Doylestown.   I was up in New York State for work overnight and arranged to get these on my way home.

Hi, Steve. Yes you are close. (checked your profile) I've been to the Plumsteadville Inn many times! I tried to do the same thing when I was going to be in Northern NJ a couple weeks ago.
