While I'm finding next to nothing at yard and garage sales, friends are finding things in their garages and attics.

Both of these belong to friends. I'll be restoring them for them.

The 242C is 3/'49, and has excellent nickel. It also has a spun fuel bung, and I can't remove the cap, which is chewed raw by a POs pliers. It took a fair amount of penetrating oil and heat to get the ball nut off, and both the generator and FA rods had to be heated to get them out. Something nasty was inside that fount (dried out seventy-year old RUG would be my guess)! Fortunately, I have spare fount and cap for a C, but I'll still try to solder that bung and get the cap off after a goodly soak and buzz in hot lye. A challenge!

200A is 11/'71. Looks like it may not need much more than a bath. It was a friend's husband's and she's cleaning out his gear a year after his passing. She said I could have any Coleman stuff she found, but when she told me this was George's she had tears in her eyes so I said I'd fix it up and get it running for her. It'll be a great memento on a cold night!

It had two packs of Silkies in that DIY case, so that's what it will be wearing.

Tomorrow is fettle day. Sunday I'll be doing a heart-lung transplant on another Rinnai water heater. Oh boy!
It's priceless until someone puts a price on it.

I'll bet that even if she doesn't use it, the 200A will be lovingly displayed.  Nice of you to fix it up for her.

I haven't had a two-fettle day in a while. Very satisfying!

I think I'll have a couple of happy friends.

The 3/'49 242C is now a 5/48. I'll try to save the spun-bung fount when I'm not fettling two lanterns at the same time.

My friends don’t call me “Lantern Levi” for nothin’,
if they did call me that.

Looking for bday lanterns 8/38, 8/41,

Oysters on the grill were excellent, but no one had an oyster knife. I looked at what I had in the Van, and fount my old Grohman's Russel Belt Knife. Very heavy blade, but a little on the wide and sharp side for opening oysters. It worked, and I still have all my fingers!

Now to get down to replacing a pump seal and performing a heat-lung transplant on a Rinnai.

Not so much fun today.

Replacing the wetted, double seal on this pump:

[50260495902_ecd17ccbab_b]

took about 3 1/2 hours. Everything was cemented together with lime scale. The pump is what moves our hot water for the brewery, so it's kinda important and I can only work on it on the weekend.

Here's $300 worth of shot seals:

Yeah, it was time.

The lanterns are back to their respective homes.

Much to my surprise, both of these folks PAID me for the fettle--even after I said "No charge". I got about ten lbs of elk steaks for the 242 and cash for the 200A!
