TSPORT
So I was driving through Lancaster, PA on my way back from a job on Monday. Thought I remembered there was a Coleman Outlet Store somewhere thereabouts. Sure enough there was and I was driving right by it.
Checked out about the whole store.
Being a fan of liquid fuel backpacking stoves, I just could not resist buying this.
They call it a Model 442-720J but it sure looks identical to my 400B I bought new back in the early 80's.
I took one out of the box in the store. Date code 5-19. It's white gas only, unlike previous Exponent version of the 442 which was dual fuel. Surely the "J" in the model # is for Japan as the majority of the writing on box and stove is Japanese.
Also picked up the lantern because it's a single mantle and green. Model # 286. Also white gas only.
I never imagined I would actually buy a NEW, modern lantern or stove as I get my enjoyment from the quality of the older ones and bringing them back to life.
Like I said, I had a weak moment.  Actually went out to car and was getting ready to leave but went back in and bought both. They were just so damn cute, had to take them home with me.
They had at least 15+ of the stoves and plenty of the lanterns as well.
I thought the lantern was a good deal at $49.95.  Not so much on the stove but I couldn't pass it up being for Japanese export only and nothing even close available for US market ($79.95).  I'll probably never use them, have plenty of others for that.
In case anyone is out that way, they had a pretty good selection of globes, generators (stove and lantern) as well as mantles and cooler parts. Lots of different liquid fuel lanterns for sale and also cases.

That stove is cool. Could you go buy me one and I'll pay for it and shipping? ðŸ˜ Being a stovie, especially for backpacking stoves, I'm not totally kidding either. Did they have more?

Sorry, Steve. I live about 1.5 hours from The Coleman outlet, don’t get over that way much.  I did mention in original post that they had 15+ of the Japanese export stoves on the shelf. Forgot to mention there is no manual in box. I can’t read Japanese anyway 😁

yes, I love that stove. The charcoal color I've never seen before.

I have been hunting lanterns for eight years and never seen a 286, somehow I thought they were discontinued sometime in the 90's.
Can't sleep, squirrels will eat me....

If you need a Sun Flame Generator Model 100-107 ( for Sunflame lanterns models 105, 106, 107 and 110) give me a PM, I have close to 80 of those, 15 bucks each.

It looks charcoal on the box but it’s actually black.   I’ll take some pics out of the box in a day or so.

Nice! Sometimes you just gotta pull the trigger and don’t look back. It must have been cool to check out all the other goodies at the outlet, I’d love to go to one just to see.

I was thinking that, too. It's already after 9pm there so maybe I'll call them tomorrow. BTW - I did call the one in Castle Rock, but there guy there never heard of such a thing, but he thought it "sounds sweet". Fingers crossed. ðŸ˜

I need one of those stoves to go with my Japanese market 286 that I got from them a year or two ago.  They would pair nicely.

Those two and their new? BIG score I'd say.

I would have taken them home as well.

I bought a reconditioned 286 at the Hagerstown, MD outlet about twenty years ago.  It has been closed now for years and I have never made the drive up to the Lancaster store but now I'm thinking about. it.

I’m glad you guys were able to work it out with the store. I contemplated buying a bunch of them while I was there but at $80 a pop it would have added up pretty quick.
