Fire hazard must be noted...But paraffin/canning wax dissolved in white gas used to be painted/brushed on canvas to waterproof it.
The gas evaporates with drying , leaving the wax. And with repeated or heavy applications; stiff canvas!
Purty colors. Well , cept'n maybe that brown when it's on fire...
