My great grandfather, George Zellmann was a cigar maker in Pana, Ill from the late 1800s to maybe in to the 1940s.  Pana is a small town south-east of Springfield. Not sure how widely they were distributed, but this was a time when every small town had a cigar maker it seems, so they might not be to wide-spread.  We have one of his cigar molds and some cigar boxes.

I have found a couple on eBay recently.

Was told by the collector that had these he also saw a cigar jar (ceramic?) go through eBay a while back, but it is no longer in the search history.  I had no idea a jar with his company name on it existed.

So I figured, with all you folks searching junk and antique stores looking for lanterns you might spot one of these cigar boxes, or anything else related with our family name on it.  I once saw a real photo postcard on eBay with a really cool small parade float advertising "Zellmann's Boss" cigars.  I thought that would be cool to get, reproduce it and send it in the mail to all my relatives as a surprise.  But it ended up selling for over $250 dollars.  Not even sure if I saved a scan of it.

I don't have a lot of money to spend, but it's nice to have these family heirlooms.  Might even be able to work out a trade with lanterns.

Thanks so much, Matt.  I think we have that last article as a newspaper clipping.  Passing these on to my Mom.  She's the family genealogist.

Great pieces of family history there.

And the one customer smoked around 12 CIGARS A DAY? Who needs food anyway?

Kurt, I will keep my eyes open. Pana is about an hour south west of me . It used to be known as the city of roses. There was a huge rose growing industry there. I can remember lots of green houses being there when I was a kid. All gone now.
