Way OT.  While I was aware of the existence of these for many years - had the opportunity buy one at a fair price.  Comes with some "provenance" as being featured in a collector magazine too!  

M1938 Leather Scabbard for M1 Rifle.  Often seen on Jeeps or other vehicles.  1942 with one original strap, no rot.  

Missing a strap, and both snaps.  Period correct snaps coming, and repro strap may be available at an rational price in a few months.  After hefting this and doing more reading - if I was a horse - I would REVOLT!

Horse pic stole from internet, and shows hows 03-Springfield was attached, this is the same except addition of brass shield for bolt handle.

Not a lifelong dream - but on the list of things I ought to have!
