The last three years in September for a week at a time we have covered old Rt. 66 from Chicago to Tucumtari NM. Its been a most memorable experience to say the least. We are gonna put that on hold this year and switch it up a bit. This year our plans are to go to Roaring River State Park in SW Missouri and Petit Jean State Park in Arkansas. We have been to both places before and have spent many a night in Roaring River. Gonna pull the new camper and really enjoy ourselves in theses two parks. If you've never been there you are missing out. I will certainly catch back up with Rt. 66, our goal is to get to the left coast when things settle down a bit. Maybe i can find a lantern or two along the way.

I spent a few months working in Joplin, MO a few years ago.  Neat area as you head south toward Arkansas!

Your post made me remember an oldie

I've been from Tucson to Tucumcari
Tehachapi to Tonapah
Driven every kind of rig that's ever been made
Driven the back roads so I wouldn't get weighed
And if you give me weed, whites and wine
And you show me a sign
I'll be willin', to be movin'
