Hey there. Picked up a full vintage gallon on Coleman fuel. Unopened

The price on it is nearly 10x cheaper than what ACE HW sales it for.:-)

I plan on using this beauty for my travel supply can. But hit a snag. I'm not sure how to open it w/o messing it up, I'd like it to reseal properly. Prefer not to have a leaker when lugging around.

Is there a proper way to open ?

Thanks in advance and go easy on me.

We always jabbed a screwdriver into the insert and pried it out. Sometimes it popped down into the can. You don’t need the insert there to reseal the can. Enjoy!

^^^ we did what Greg did. Smack the bottom of the handle of a slotted screw driver with the palm of your hand. Pry up. Done.

And use the fuel! It's still good after all these years.
It's priceless until someone puts a price on it.

About two years ago I found an add on craigslist where this guy was giving away three totes of camping goods.  Met with him and he had cases of those small tealights candles, cases of gel fuel called safe heat, dozens of bottles of lighter fluid, citronella candles, spark lighters, and three gallons of Ozark camp fuel among other various items.   Tried to pay him but he refused.  Gave a lot of the items away but still have two full cans of Ozark fuel.  I used the third can of fuel with no problems.

While it wasnt 10x cheaper, I really regrete not buying a nos can just like that for $10. Told the guy his price was too high. :/

Follow directions. “ cut this out””haha. It may be difficult since yours is beat up but i use a tiny screwdriver and gently pry it off. Like the others have said it’s not necessary to put it back but I do kind a like a paint can. I am sure it helps reseal because I have to pry it off with the screwdriver every time I use it.  I figured it may help keep Moisture out but it may also be a waste of time

I picked up 5 of those same cans this year at estate sale.  Of course there was no price on them so I went forth and offered .75 cents a can.  The guy looked at me like this guy must be a nut job.  There sitting in my garage now.

Pull it out with a pair of pliers. I'm pretty sure that seal has been out before. Not sure about Coleman fuel, but other cans I've seen with that type seal, when it's new, the seal is pushed all the way down into the spout. Yours looks like its been taken out, probably bent a little  in the process, then pushed back in part ways.

Unfortunately I'm the guy who beat it up trying to get it out. Hence I thought I'd ask before I trashed it more. Lol.

That can man be different than the old ones I’ve done but I was able to pry it off. Yours may be different.
