I like that his HS senior portrait included his truck.

That's a sign of good character, IMO.

Congrats on your grandkids. I've got a few years (hopefully - pray pray pray) before I hit grandpappy status.

CONGRATS, GRANDPA! (In case you have a hard time hearing) [wink]
Seriously though, it is always good when kids succeed.  No matter who they are or what they do.

Congratulations on your grandchildren graduating high school!! High schools now are filled with all kinds of bad things and influences. They are good people for keeping their nose to the grindstone and getting it done. Be proud!!

Nate’s truck was purchased new by his great g’pa on his mom’s side. They purchased and moved to their retirement home in northern MI a couple of years before he actually retired so he commuted back and forth to the Detroit area every Monday and Friday for a couple of years and rented a room during the week. One early Monday morning the transmission or something else serious gave out on the truck. He had it towed home and went to town and bought a new truck.
This truck sat for awhile but he finally got it repaired and used it for years as a plow truck. When Nate got close to getting his drivers license he decided he wanted that truck so his other g’pa redid the body but the box was beyond repair. I located a wreck with a good box and rear bumper, Nate and his dad drove out to get it. Nate has helped with every step of restoring this truck so yep it’s kinda special to him.
Great g’pas truck, him and his dad have restored it and both g’pas have helped.

That's the way to do it. Get them involved with the work and upkeep. It teaches them to appreciate and respect it even more. Great work on the truck and the family Greg. I'm sure that you're ready for the commander to retire back to Michigan also. That will be nice to have her and her family close to you again.

I think that look is coming naturally, he’s been shoveling out horse stalls after school for the last couple of years.

Good for him, working, making some money. I lived over 20 miles from town when in HS, nearest neighbor was a mile away, not many opportunities to make money. Made some over Easter or Christmas break a few times, working a day or two.

Congrats to you (and them). The story about the truck is great. That kind of involvement  builds character! (and makes sure he won't go in on a new over priced truck for a while)

That’s Nate in the Carhartts, he’s not engaged, dad’s on the winch and the PO is steering the truck but it was a lot of work to get the truck to roll.
