The CLLUCS  (Coleman Lamp and Lantern Underground Communication System) informed me of an opportunity about 15 minutes from the house.  Proves again - you cannot win if you do not play.  Deals are out there.  Make friends.  Share information.

Less than twice the cost (actually only slightly more than the cost) of the nice Dinner with drinks and prime rib we finished just before I headed up the Interstate!

How do I join the CLLUCS? Background check.. Fingerprints.. it would be worth it. Is that the shade in the picture? Are they similar to a 334?

If you talk to folks - probably a member already

And - yes - it is 334 - my bad brain malfunction - had 316 on the brain from another discussion!

Nice score ðŸ‘ I lucked into mine in a flea market! Spotted it from 50ft away and knew I was going to own it ðŸ˜

I must be a member of the CLLUCS then as many a deal has found me instead of the other way around ðŸ˜‰

Quick trip across the workbench.  Dated 8-5 (May 1928), bakelite valve wheel, Coleman Lamp Co. on bottom of fount

This shade is TRANSFORMATIVE!  Basically the "big Hat" of the day.  The light goes down, not in your eyes when on a table.  So much easier to carry as it is lighter and extremely stable.

And -
  • Valve boogered - not at all sure exactly how - but not sealing.  Thinking mixed parts from two incompatible ones.  using a loaner, will get the right bakelite on later.
  • Q99 plugged - using known good R55
  • The perfect addition is a bug screen - and I have one from KansasJohn from (I think) the Dick Sellers auction.  this seems a great place to use it!

Congrats on a wonderful find, Mike.  I too like how the light is contained and shines down.  I found mine with a couple of CQs that had been wire-wheeled.

Thanks everyone - this really was a team effort - CCF lets me learn about things, I talk with local and further afield collectors, help others and others help me.  Tigersfans2 (Mike) and I spent a lot of time side by side at the local coleman auctions.  He helped me out by replacing CQ parts I destroyed back in the beginning, I have found things he needs, and he returned the favor today.  THANKS!

Kansas John

Topeka Mike, I’ve had my 480 apart enough to get it going.  My ceramic is mostly intact.   It has jumped off the gen twice and is secured in a padded box now.  I got one of the OCP metal ones for use.  Not sure it’s completely dialed in yet but it got hot out before I was finished with it.

Leavenworth Mike, I hope you get some use out of that screen.  I couldn’t figure out how to adjust anything once the lamp got burning hot.
