Do. Not. Get. Me. Started.

Honest.
It's priceless until someone puts a price on it.
Walk a mile in a man's shoes before you criticize him--then you're a mile away, and he has no shoes.

Now that you’re started
My friends don’t call me “Lantern Levi” for nothin’,
if they did call me that.

Looking for bday lanterns 8/38, 8/41,
10/25, and 8/07

The biggest lie I tell myself is
”I don’t need to write that down, I’ll remember it.”

Nevermore, TMI for young minds
we use to do the same with a condom and a paper bag. Light the bag and run like hell.

I met Frank in the second grade when he moved 2 blocks away from me. We were in the same classes a lot all through our school years. I would spend a lot of time at his house. His Dad (who just turned 83 this yr) taught us a lot of valuable life lessons, like how to properly dunk chocolate chip cookies in milk. If your curious hold it in the milk and wait for six bubbles anymore and it gets too soggy any less  and  it’s not soft enough.. anyway Frank and I did just about everything together. Joined the Boy Scouts together, got kicked out of the Boy Scouts together ... we got into a lot of trouble together. Nothing serious typical stuff. Built a mini bike in his finished basement and left black tire marks on the tile floor riding it in the house. Drove our first dune buggy through the neighbors fence etc. ( built it with to much engine and no front brakes there was no stopping it). At sixteen his Dad bought a run down cement plant. After school several of us would go there and work on fixing it up to get it the plants running. Well the railroad ran right behind the yard and trains were constantly going by to the station not much further down the line so they would be going slow. There Were round cement covers for septic tanks etc stacked in the back near the tracks. One day Frank and I decided to get naked flour our bodies and pose as statues on the stacks when the trains went by. At seventeen I enlisted in the Marine Corp so we were separated for a few yrs but when I got out we renewed our friendship just like before. We did everything together. We even worked together. Built my first race car and raced at Islip speedway. Eventually we ended up on a pit crew for a local Modified Race team. We worked on the car after work and would race Friday nights in New Jersey, Saturday nights on Long Island.

One fateful night it all ended. It was 38 yrs ago this month. We were at Islip speedway. It’s was a big race so instead of pitting off the track we were pitted in the center of the track. We used the x part of the figure 8 track. We were the last pit so we could get on the track first. There were a lot of big name Modied drivers there. Richie Evans, Greg Sacks.  Bobby Parks (Stevens dad for you nascar fans) . Anyway on the first lap Fred gets put into the wall several cars involved. John Blewett was the pit before us he pulled in slightly in our pit, so when Fred pulls in we were over the safety line. Our car had a broken ball joint. Flatbed Joe was working on it I was assisting Frank was standing next to me..

the ball joint was not coming out but I knew what to do, I’ve had this happen before. I tapped Joe on the shoulder and gave him the wait one sec sign and took a step to get a tool. Heard “look “but never heard “out” I was hit from behind and blacked out. When I came to I was on the hood of a race car my legs over the front, The engine was revved high. I could see stars moving. I remembered think “Omg were still moving, he’s going to hit the wall and my legs will get ripped off my body” then I blacked out again. Woke up seconds later still moving I threw myself off the still moving car praying not to get hit by another car. When I did I came face to with Frank. There were 5 of us who got hit we all survived except Frank. I miss him everyday.

His funeral was one of the biggest I’ve ever intended. I lost contact with his family because I was too weak to face his dad who was always one of the strongest man I knew and it hurt to see him cry. Fast forward to 20 yrs ago. I move to Ca, Pam and I go to Vegas a few times. I knew Franks family moved to Vegas some yrs ago so I start searching for them with no luck. Pam and I finally decide to get married in Vegas and few days before I leave I find a listing for someone who might be Frank’s little brother. I call the number no answer so I leave a msg saying who I am and that I’m looking for Vince (Franks dad). A few days later just as we are walking out the door to go to Vegas the phone rings. It’s Vinnie.. we meet in Vegas and he was the my best man at my wedding. I still see him and talk to him constantly. I just wish Frank could have been there to meet my wife. He would have loved her.
