So I have my slant parts leftover from the pinholed fount, and I always keep a 275 fount laying around for Frank projects so I decided to marry the two together

Now the simple thing to do would be to use a strait pickup tube and operate it like a quicklite. But I usually take the hard way to an easy solution. I want to make the slant into the instant light Coleman should've done. So I'm going to try to use the 275 F/A tube minus the schrader valve and see how it works. In my mind it shouldn't know what is above it, as long as the generator orfice is the same? Which I believe them to be.

Anyhow here are the cuts and threadings mockups of what I'm thinking. Still some derusting and valve fixing to work on. But in due time.

Thoughts so far?

Well, it sure is interesting
My friends don’t call me “Lantern Levi” for nothin’,
if they did call me that.

Looking for bday lanterns 8/38, 8/41,

I did not. I personally have no use for it.

Seems to work like it's supposed too. It spit about like any old instant light. I'll let it cool down and try lighting it with a match and see if it flares much.

Thanks guys, definitely Poncho. Just want to give it a good shakedown and make sure everything is going to work like I planned it. This is a bit of an experiment... Plus it will give me time to figure out what kind of paint scheme I want to do.... I want to do something a little different this next time.

Nickel? I remember Bruce Kuda sharing a video nickeling a fount with a brazing paste, i would try that instead of painting

If the fount was perfect I'd give that a go. But it's got a couple little dings I'll have to fill. Bruce does some cool stuff for sure.

Digital dark green camo for the fount!

Or maybe one of those "dip" camo jobs?

Looks good Toby!

A little update on the one Dominic calls the "Slanturd"

Went to fire it up this morning hoping for a repeat on the instant start I had yesterday. Well instead, no spitting just fuel!! Just like you would expect from a quicklite with no preheat.
So anyway I scratched my head and let it run for a couple hours and shut it down. Went back to it a minute ago with another idea, I released the pressure and opened the valve letting the fuel in the system drain back so to speak. Tightened the cap pumped it about 20 times and it lit perfect again. Just like a good running instant light should... So maybe this slant design holds too much fuel in it's long travel to the generator? I'll do some more experimenting with it.

Another issue I noticed was while running it had a pulse and after about an hour needed pumped up again.... This is not a known good generator, just something I grabbed out of my parts drawer. I have a new Q77 in route, but I have a feeling it may have something to do with the F/A tube... It held pressure overnight just fine, but while running seemed to run low... Makes me think it's letting some air through the circuit.. Possibly causing the pulse? Only time will tell. I may grab a known good generator and give it another shot before the Q77 makes it to see. May have to just quicklite this one ðŸ˜Ÿ

Toby why you went with a Q77 instead of a R55?

Poncho, Kevin beat me to it. I'd like to experiment with making a Q88. This valve is threaded so I thought why not ðŸ˜ I seen Steve had a write up on one awhile back, I'll have to try to find it. Need to get the bugs worked out first.
