Having a couple of coldies with my mate when the boy says "Dad I'm bored" my usual response is that "only boring people get bored"
Instead I said get in the drivers seat and we'll go for a little drive.
Boy drove about a 6km round trip to a place we call the Old Man, a lump of limestone that looks like an old man's face and where we always stop for a beer when out quad (atv) riding.
Only problem was.... I ended up on gate duty, and there was plenty of closed ones!
Boy drove like a champ, listened to how to approach track obstacles and use the engine or brakes.
Looking forward to 6 years time when he can get a license and drive his poor old man around..

The hazy look in the distance is due to the Australian bush fires, feel for them.

Classy but old, old girl has just turned 20 and clocking 380k+ kms on the odo.
Rums like a top with routine maintenance.
Besides... I'm too rough and poor to own new things and treat them like I do 🙂

Hey, the dog's helping him!  Sorry to hear about the volcanic eruption and deaths in NZ.  I knew you had volcanos, but thought they were more docile than ours here.

What a great place to learn how to drive.  You really have to pay attention!  The haze in the distance looks heavy and our son in NSW says the fires and smoke are terrible.  We’re praying for those folks.

I remember those days. I drove everywhere before I was supposed to. I owned my first car when I was 13.

Well, your steering wheel is on the wrong side!

Other than that, looks to have been a most excellent arvo!
It's priceless until someone puts a price on it.

That's cool John and a bit more defined than ours now.
When we first named ours (as a landmark reference we could all find) he had a lot more facial features, but being limestone, facing the prevailing weather and live stock has taken its toll over 20 odd years.
You can still sort of see him, his nose is still just there, and male pattern balding lol.
Still watching over the valley and will remain our old man even once crumbled away.

Andrew.  Here's another rock face profile:  The "Old Man of the Mountain" on Cannon Mountain, White Mountains, New Hampshire.  Made of granite and eons old, but came down with a great rumble in May 2003.  Happy Holidays.
