Well here are Mike's 138 lamps in the refinishing process. I've had these for quite sometime, too long actually. It's time to bang them out for him. I'm sure he will be happy to see these finally going into my multiple stage finishing process. 1st step is to remove the old paint. These won't take me long once I commit myself. I will make them dance with a highend Automotive 2K Acrylic Urethane. A bullet proof finish. These kind of rescue's are fun. I will try to show my process throughout its refinishing schedule for those that want to follow.

Now they are clean! I will prep sand the with some padded 400 paper giving the primer something to grab/bite. Mask them a bit, then in the booth they go.

Thanks guys. Under primer in just a few hours! I will let this set for a few. Then I will hit it a few more times. I have a wet coat window of about 2 hours with this product. Another words i can apply more coats for up to 2 hours, if later i have to wait until tomorrow or i will create surface tension and lift it. Then you start over.

Thanks guys, well these have dried overnight. So I will sand them out with padded 400 again being careful not to burn through too much. I'm not worried about getting them too flat right now as I will build the gloss black paint and the gloss clear top coats working them down as I go. My goal today is to knock the primer and get them in black, 6 wet mils will dry to about 3 then I will knock them next and apply 6 more then knock them some. Then build the clear gloss. One gets the bronze pearl added to it. The other is just straight black as it has the nickel base and handle.

Well Mike you lamps are going to be SICK! I wet sanded the black after waiting for the paint to completely tighten up/ cure. I put 6 light coats of clear gloss Acrylic urethane. I will wet sand this to 3000 then polish it out. You might put this in your bathroom, as you'll be able to shave in it. Super shiny to go with that new shiny nickel base. The other is going to get the bronze colored pearl tomorrow!  Then clear coated the same. Your very close Mike!

Thank you everyone! I had to strip and redue the solid black one once. The other Pearl affects one twice. I just wasn't happy with their progress knowing I wasn't going to get the final results I needed to make these two lamps what the need to be in the end. NOW is "their" time to dance. Who knows if ever again. So, no matter how long you've done this, expect this to happen if you care enough. I try to hold myself to my own standards. And the base, I lost count how many times I redone it. The steps were hard to nail. The cut lines are a triple radius and tight. Stupid lamps... And Jim you are so funny my friend. 😆

Im going to resserect this post again just because of the amount of work involved on 2 very special lamps and to of you who are not familiar with them. You good old boys have seen these already. To the new guys and gals who havent. These are special lamps treated with very close attention to detail. The 138A and B models. Kero and white gas. Stupid preparation and completion. Enjoy Steve / Dr. Coleman brother, these are meant to incourage you on such a fine lamp as you have newly acquired in your restoration process, these 2 were cigs Mikes. Ultra highend automotive painting. They look wet. Dozens of hours.... Its right or its wrong...i will help you in ANY way i can so you can enjoy your rare lamp.
