Duane,

Thanks for the pic and pad length! I was a little worried when they said the pad was only 28' long when I made the reservation. I will have plenty of room! Need some sun for the solar to keep the batts charged up.

I will be in Thursday evening. Heading back to UT on Monday. With a 10 hr. drive, might as well make it a long weekend!

See you on Friday!

Linus,

Thanks for the link. I wish they would have those photos when you make the reservation.

I tried to stretch my stride a little. 17 paces, so I figured about 51', if only 2.5', over 40'. See you. Extra vehicle fee is $8, not $7 like online shows. Not sure if the extra vehicle fee has to be paid at the museum.

Hey Dan, I don't know if you are traveling west via HWY 93/6 or HWY 50, but if you are traveling 50, I am located 20 miles north of Eureka NV if you are looking for a hot shower on your way to or back from this Camp-Out.

Andy,

Thanks for the offer. Gong 93/6 but may go 50 back home. I should be good on the shower. I have a good one in the camper and Duane said the campground showers are nice. Sorry you can't make it to this one!

Guys,
I cant come. I have been attending to a dying friend for a while and I have to stay, they require 24 hour care and I am doing alot of it. My site (34) is paid for and anyone can use it if they want.

Mike, thanks for checking in, dont have too much fun in I D Hoe.
If anyone is bringing Euro brassies, let me know if I need to bring my parts kits for them by Friday morn. I'm bringing more lanterns and stoves, maybe have more room to bring them out.
If anyone wants a campfire, let me know tomorrow also so I can load up some wood, I havn't been using much. I see they dont want wood brought in from other areas.
Repo pup and I are shooting for about 2 tomorrow, check in time.

Well Linus, you will be missed, but we all understand. There will always be another campout. I am going to light a special lantern on your behalf Saturday evening. It’s the one that started it all for me, my very first lantern. It’s just a 275, but I haven’t lit it in years. I hope you get a chuckle from being represented by a “turd”, and I’m sure someone (yeah, me), will make a bad joke about how many 275’s does it take to make a turd herd.

Gents, this all sounds great. Ive got dutch ovens and charcoal, ez ups, tables, and who knows what else on the truck. Will bring some brassies, a few lanterns, not sure what else.
Im really sad Linus will not be joining us as he and Amanda are always so much fun. Same for Linus’s mom and boyfriend. He and I would really like to rebuild the GPA community gathering tradition and keep this tradition alive here in Nor Cal and Nevada. We can all work together to rebuild these great Coleman Campouts Matt has told us about. Too bad the So Cal group and Classic stovie groups have not been more responsive. Understanding everyone is busy, I am not surprised, but am glad to make time on my calendar to enjoy fellowship with you all.
FWIW, no one need bring any large amounts of Coleman fuel. I have a FAT surplus and will bring plenty for use at camp and will have a large amount for trades or whatever. Definetely do not buy any for this campout!
I look forward to meeting those of you I do not know, and seeing those of you I do.
My plan is to finish loading truck in the AM and probably arriving in the early evening and doing dinner at camp. Im traveling solo this time and will not have son or family with me so there may be some alcoholic endeavors persued tomorrow evening.
If there are any desired trades or parts needs, state them now so we have a chance to help each other out as collectors.

Warm Regards

Randy

Cooler this AM, 36 at 6:30AM, warmed up to 39 now at 8. A little smoke has moved back into the area, no fires close by, so the smoke has thinned out pretty good by the time it gets here.

At Lake Davis a year ago, there was talk about getting something setup sooner and better situated for other parts of Kalifornia to attend.

Camping and lantern display went well, lots of people stopping by to ask and inquire about our collections, taking photos, almost 60 lanterns on tables, some even worked. I only lit a couple of mine Saturday night. Made a number of folks day. Randy brought a sh_tload of lanterns. Matt and Randy fettled most of Saturday, Dan stayed active and dropped in at Linus' cancelled campsite to visit and talk shop, he had a site a 100 yards away. We failed to upset neighboring campers with the lit sky and talking till 11PM. I managed to trade my 9C for some fuel, but Randy wasnt eager to sell a 243A he had. I cooked on a Optimus 8, Optimus 22 alcohol, 418 Ethan brought me last year, my Borde bomb and a 6B. Dan should have some photos, my camera wont download to my new tablet and I forgot to bring my tablet. 41 Saturday morning, nice days, warmer Sunday AM, but more smoke visible.

A few pics of some GPA from the gathering. I think a good time was had by all with some very nice old stoves coming out to play. If you know Hiker Dwayne, you know what I mean. He likes his single burners and also had some cool double burners and legendary 3 burner model 418, Colemans first three burner camp stove. Matt as always had some obscure items never seen by most enthusiasts, and a new to him tent with internal umbrella frame. In attached pic, it is missing its two legs for front standout doorway shade.  Tom of course had a super clean 229-copper, with a red globe that was simply stunning when lit along with the triceratops of the LP world, and something from Close Encounters, the Northern Nova lantern. Super bright, but adjustable, and just plain strange looking- almost like a bloated MSR Whisperlite. All in all, a few who were expected could not attend, and we will likely see more and greater numbers at the next gathering.
Look for another post re this great campground at another time. I did include a pic of the Humphrey light which runs 24/7 in the bathrooms. Nice touch for a GPA camp gathering.
This was an interesting camp as almost everyone who walked or drove by stopped to look or chat us up. It was great seeing so much support for what we do, and apparently those on this forum are not the only folks in the world who appreciate GPA.  Click image for larger version - Name: AB2724B2-D363-4B21-BAFA-E7A26CD55407.jpeg, Views: 119, Size: 160.62 KB Click image for larger version - Name: 8CC86788-024C-456A-8821-A2B3A961E419.jpeg, Views: 123, Size: 123.05 KB

Got back to the house at 8:30 PM last night. Adding an hour when I crossed into UT made for a long day.

It was great to see Matt and Duane again and meet Randy. Oh, I can't forget about Repo Pup! As Randy said, we had a lot of the campers stopping in to see all the GPA's. I had a 152A lamp that I bring camping with me. People were shocked that Coleman made table lamps. They only think about camping lanterns and stoves. We also had two kids (brother and sister) from a near by site that hung out with us for a few hours. They thought it was neat to watch Randy and Matt fix a lantern and get it running. So they did their part on teaching the next generation about GPA's! As Duane said, I spent an extra day before and after the weekend to enjoy the area. I had a few people that stopped in Saturday night stop in at my site Sunday night. They said, Hay, it is one of the Lantern Guys.

With Linus unable to make it, Matt came through with the Retro camp site equipment.

DSC_6345__1535490670_96.60.197.98.jpg

I picked up a 413D stove at a thrift store in a town a few miles from camp. When I was on my way back to camp. I stopped at an antique shop. Nothing there GPA, but this is what the lady who owns the shop uses to go back and forth from the shop to her house. I want one!!
