I think some of the paint stripper changes happened nationally a few years ago. In NY there was a change in formulation but I see HD in Manhattan has 27 cans of Jasco now. Keep in mind I am 6-7 Hours away from that location!

I am thinking initially the Methylene Chloride was banned. Wow the new formulation is expensive!

The Jasco 1 gal. Premium Paint and Epoxy Remover is an extremely strong stripper that effectively removes most coatings. It is safe to use on wood, metal concrete and masonry. The semi-paste formula is great to use on vertical surfaces. After your project, this stripper cleans up with water. Strips up to 5 layers of latex paint in 15 minutes. Strips up to 5 layers of oil/alkyd paint in 45 minutes.

  • For use on wood, metal and masonry
  • Removes paint, varnish, lacquer, shellac, epoxy, urethane and synthetic coatings
  • Will not raise wood grain
  • Non-methylene chloride formula
  • Strips up to 5 layers of latex paint in 15 minutes
  • Brushable, clings to surfaces
  • Do not use to strip bathtubs, use in very well ventilated areas
  • Not for sale or use in California
  • Strips multiple layers in 1 application water rinsable non-flammable
  • California residents see Prop 65 WARNINGS

lets say you had a fount sealed with caswells or the like and for some reason you wanted to remove it ? that Methylene Chloride is what caswells recomended you use to remove there product . so in my mind i would have used Jasco , this stuff i bought today is weak in comparison but after a few tries i got the paint off .

I'd like to see the science on denatured alcohol environmental hazards.  Compared to gasoline?

Sorry Steve, but the highways still go both ways, even in California.  At least for now.

And you wonder why I can't wait to retire and leave this state? Problem is to find one that isn't going the same way, at least in my lifetime.

You might check for "alcohol stove fuel" (assuming it is the same or close enough)  and see if its fallen through the cracks. It may not have but its worth a check. Being a coastal state with lots of boats that use alcohol stoves, it could have...

I lived in California for 15 years.  It is a long narrow state. The border is not too far away.

I’m trying to stay out of this based on the potential political nature if this. Google why CA got rid of DA, it has to due with VOC’s. As much bashing of CA that is done I’ve grown to appreciate the cleaner air and extended emissions warranties I’m given based on NY adopting CA emissions. If it was so bad there no one would live there! Then again I don’t live there!

Definitely a lot moving out of California. I'm surrounded by West coasters here in SW Missouri. Granted several retired and moved away but not all. The ones that move here and conform to our ways do great. The ones that try to turn it into CaliMissouri tend to move back ðŸ˜ To each there own I guess

Most of us are trying to escape that. Not export it. Most, as there are two kinds of Californians here in California. We don't all think alike.

I think the issue (or one issue) with Jasco was groundwater. They changed the formula so you couldn't rinse it off-that was a bummer. Maybe there's more to it. They want you to let it dry out before discarding it. Supposedly that renders it harmless.

There was a couple from California that lived in a cabin next to my mother-in-law's on Grand Lake O The Cherokees some years back. I think he got nervous around the good old boys that lived around him and I believe they moved back to California.
Some NE Oklahoma boys make us Joplinites look down right cosmopolitan 😀
