Years ago, I bought a quart of Naptha for filling zippos. I loved it! A whole quart for $7 vs $4 for 4oz of Zippo fuel or ronsonol.

Later started hanging out with you people. All hail Crown fuel, and I started using Crown fuel in my Zippo and hand warmers.

Eventually started to notice my Zippo seemed anemic. Filling every week, poor flame, burning though wicks, etc.

I've switched back to Zippo fuel and it is a night/day difference for me. I paid $7 for a 12oz can, and I'll continue to do so. I find it is much cleaner burning, ignites quicker, etc etc etc. I hate Crown in zippos now.

I never got the same results with camp fuel in my Zippo lighters and hand warmers either.  Always better with Ronsonol or Zippo fuel, IMO.
It may be just a simple thing, like a refining step or the lack of the rust inhibitor in Zippo fuel, but it works better than what is made to go into lanterns.

I'll have to try some Zippo in my hand warmers, always use CF or Crown.

@302w tried Camp fuel in my zippo and hand warmers and they don’t perform the same as lighter fuel

I pretty much run several hand warmers throughout the winter so not likely to be buying Zippo or Ronsonol (owned by Zippo).   I find the performance of both Crown and Coleman fuel to be fine, but prefer Crown because it doesn't have dye in it.  The dye doesn't affect the performance, but rises to the top when running the warmer and washes back down upon refill.

I don't use a Zippo lighter often, but have no issues with Coleman fuel in them either.  I don't recall if I've used Crown fuel in a Zippo.

Flammable liquids, open flame, what could go wrong?

I was getting 12 hours or more of heat from my Peacock hand warmers on black can Zippo fuel.  Could be a benefit of being at sea level, but it was sure nice this past winter.  No need to try anything else.

Works well in Beattie Jet Lighters too.

I use crown fuel in my hand warmers. I did use Ronsonol but decided to try the Crown fuel and I liked it a little better, maybe a little less aroma when burning, but that could just be my perception.  I refill the Ronsonol containers with Crown as the containers are handy for refilling the hand warmers.

I've been using Crown for several months now in my  Zippo, but have yet to see a real difference.  Kind of hard to tell, since it's always on the workbench, shop is so hot right now, and the fuel evaporates often.

@Hot Diggity

Chuck,

That Beattie Jet lighter is sweet.  I've been looking for one, but no luck so far.

I still use Coleman fuel in my Zippo lighters because of the cost savings.
I top off the lighter every morning since it seems to evaporate quicker here at 5,600 feet and low humidity. Less oxygen too.
I also go through more flints with misfires, compared to when I lived at sea level.

My lighters running on CF or Crown do seem to run out within a week. I just figure it's par for the course. Now I'll keep an eye out for Zippo and Ronsonol fuel on sale.
