Hi everyone:

My in-laws gave me this lantern about a year and a half ago as a present.  It was in pretty decent shape when I got it, but it wouldn't light and needed a good cleaning.

Finally got around to it and got it going this evening.  It doesn't have the right globe for it's age, and the vent has some significant rust, but it really ran well.  I used a regular #21 Coleman mantle, but it is pretty bright.  I wonder how much brighter it would be with a good mantle?

Anyway, hope you enjoy this as much as I did.

Nice work on your ‘real first save’, Brian!  That sure is running bright and a very nice gift from your in-laws.
Still looking for that green shade.  🙂

21's are what should be used on them. But a 99"s will work as well if the 21 is being over run.

Great job on the lantern looks like it's burning great.

Awesome job!  242's are one of my favorite lanterns.

Great job! There may be no better lantern to start with than a 242.  The coleman 21 is about as bright as it's gonna get.  You could put an old silk-lite on it but I don't think it will be noticeably brighter, though maybe a bit more durable.

I found out about durability. After I shut the lantern down I noticed a huge hole in the mantle. Luckily no damage to the globe.
