I got this Coleman 1952 MilSpec a couple months ago from a neighbor who found it at our local transfer station. Looks like someone was going to just throw it out. He knew I liked restoring lanterns and dropped it off. I recently took it apart and started to clean it up. With some help from my brother I dipped the Aladdin frame, cage and bale in some molasses to remove some rust. I had to do a BB dance in the fount to remove some minor rust as well. The check valve seamed to be in good shape so I just blew it out with some carb cleaner. Gave the fount a good coat of polish and cleaned up the brass fittings. It has all four quad glass intact. The lantern was missing the funnel, parts well cap and chain for the fuel cap. The fuel knob was also broken in half. All witch were bought from our host. I also replaced the decals with new ones, the originals were pretty shot. I got everything back together and fired her up. Like I have read there is an art to lighting a MilSpec and there sure is.. I’ll have to practice that lol. I hope everyone likes my pictures. Thanks for looking!

Nice save! On startup, try only 10 pumps from no pressure at all... I've had good luck with that. Once it starts generating you can pump it up like a rocket ðŸ˜ you can preheat these as well, but be careful as the generators are aluminum. Well done👍

Thanks! Yes when I started it up I only used 6 pumps, then after it started to burn in I gave it another 15 or so pumps. Man do they roar. ðŸ˜

It’s alive! It sure came out great, Kenny. Thank goodness it got pulled from the dump pile, it’s way too nice to have met that end.

Looking forward to seeing it (hearing it 😉) lit up next time we get together.

Looks great! Now acquire a model M1950 stove of the same year and then you can feel the roar.

It's a shame that someone would throw out such a wonderful piece of history. I would love to have it in my small collection.
