New member here from the Great White North......saw a mesh globe in Cdn Tire earlier today. Is it simply a cheap replacement for a glass globe or does it serve some other purpose? (Thanks to you guys I have a new addiction)😁

Welcome!  Yes, cheap replacement for a globe, durable as heck but somewhat susceptible to high winds!  I have one that is not secured and it works great slipped inside a globe to reduce the brightness!

[welcome], Bill, from Pennsylvania! I have a fine mesh globe I got as a gift from another collector, and have coarser mesh to make one myself.

Welcome, from Michigan.

The mesh globes have their place IMO however as mentioned high winds and I would add winter camping - they ain't so good. Most I've seen only fit the 288, 286 sized lanterns.

I suppose there are Petromax kero sized ones out there as well.

Mesh globe was required in Oregon when I visited a Lava Tube cave. They didn’t want any broken glass pieces in the cave.

I thought I was the only one who remembered wandering around the cave under the visitor's center with an issued Coleman lantern!
It's priceless until someone puts a price on it.
