The 2019 Great Lakes Coleman Collector’s spring meet will be held at Jerry’s Camping Center (4506 E. Broadway Madison, WI) on Friday, March 22 and Saturday, March 23.  This is an informal regional gathering and you do not have to be a member of the ICCC to attend.

The store opens at 9:00 AM on Friday for those who can make it early to chat about lamps, lanterns, heaters, irons, and stoves and begin setting up sales and display tables.  Everyone will receive a name tag, schedule, and instructions on how to get from the store to Jerry’s garage. First-time attendees to a Great Lakes event will also receive a Great Lakes patch.

We will enjoy the Engbring’s hospitality all day with lunch being served around noon.  Trading, buying, and selling Coleman will be the order of the day until the store closes at 5:00 PM.  The gathering will then move to Jerry’s garage at 4809 Rothman Place, Monona - remember to bring along a lantern for the light up.

  • We will have a light up honoring Dave DeFrates at the garage this year.  See post #21 for details.

  • We will have a hayride after dinner.

  • Tours of the Coleman museum in the basement will be conducted and we will have food and fellowship in the garage by the wood burner.

The Engbrings will supply the pizza for dinner, but you will need to bring your own beverages. Later, rides can be arranged back to the hotel for those who need them.

Saturday activities will begin at 9:00 back at the store, and later the Engbrings will again provide lunch. There will be a light up and group photo at 1:30. The meet will end at 2:30. Attendees will pack up their collections and we will help clean up the showroom.   At 5:30, the group will reconvene at a local restaurant for dinner at shared expense (we will split the bill by the number attending). If you missed the basement tours on Friday night, arrangements can be made for a showing after dinner.

Once again, Jerry negotiated a substantial discount with a hotel near his store - $79 a night plus tax.  The Sleep Inn and Suites is located at 4802 Tradewinds Parkway Madison, WI 53718. The easiest way to book a room is to use this link:

https://www.choicehotels.com/reservations/groups/TD48Z7

Their telephone number is (608) 221-8100.  In order to take advantage of the discount, you must make your reservation by March 7 and either use the link to make your reservation or you must mention the “Jerry’s Camping Center” group rate when making the reservation over the phone.

The event is well attended and we have a limited number of tables available for display and sales.  If you are planning on joining us and you need a table, you must let us know ahead of time so we can reserve a table for you. There will be a minimal charge (TBD) for a table.  If you don't let us know, we likely will not have a table for you.   If you are interested in bringing a side dish for lunch either Friday or Saturday, let us know that as well.

If you are planning on attending, please PM or email me even if you have contacted Jerry as I am the one keeping the list.

Thanks,

Steve Potter (hammer_off)

We have decided to dedicate the March gathering to the memory of Dave DeFrates.  Dave was a charter member of the ICCC, served as Vice-President, and hosted the convention in Charlotte Michigan in 2014.  In his honor, we will be putting off the 319 light up until next year and will instead be doing a light up of lanterns as close as possible to his birthday - March of 1939.  If you don't have a 3 39 (or close), any lamp or lantern with a tie to the 2014 Convention that he hosted would be welcome.  Failing that, any lamp or lantern purchased from a collector in Michigan would do.  We will all miss Dave.

Please put me down for a table, Steve. I'm bringing a lot of parts lamps and lanterns - any and all FREE to anyone that can use them.

If I could also have a half table nearby to take images that would be great. Thank you.

Even though it feels like winter will never end, the Gathering will be here before you know it!

I'm not sure how it happened exactly, but it looks like I will be ditching my responsibilities here in California and showing up at Jerry's. I don't need a table or anything, but I might need to borrow a jacket if you can't get this polar vortex thing shooed away by then.

We have reached (actually exceeded) the maximum number of tables that we can fit in the building at Jerry's Camping Center. I am not sure how many more folks have yet to inform me of their plans. If you have already reserved a table, please consider sharing it with someone. I will go there tomorrow and see if we can figure out how to jam 4 more tables in.  We will make it work somehow.
