Two weekends ago my wife and I went to Maine to see our daughter, son in-law and granddaughter.  On one of the days there we went out to lunch to have lobster and were returning back to their house, my son in-law was directing me and told me to take this back road.  Once we turned off we came across an antique store.  I said we need to stop.  When I first walked in there were two 228's on the floor.  I began to look at these to see if they were my birthday lantern.  One was a 62 and the other a 65, both were in great condition.  The owner spoke up and said if you like Coleman lanterns I have a fresh barn find upstairs still in the original box.  So we headed up.  Low and behold it was a L427 in great condition.  The box is in great condition along with mantles and directions and other paperwork.   The mica globe is perfect and the vent is also perfect.  This is one on my bucket list that I have wanted for some time and never expected to find one in this condition.  This lantern is dated 6 11 or November 1926. This lantern was originally shipped to Iver Johnson Sporting Goods in Boston.  We worked out a deal and I brought it back to upstate New York.  It had RUG in it and will take a bit of cleaning to get it running.  She is a beauty!  This certainly makes up for all the antique shows, flea markets and other shows that I normally go to, which are now cancelled or closed.

Hey Lew,
You Suck!
I live here in Maine and I take serious issue with you coming around and snorkeling all the good stuff out from under us. I guess I’ve been falling down on the job.
Well, at least it went to a good home. Let’s see some pictures when you get her going.
You definitely Suck!

Great find Lew. Amazing the condition the box is in. I'm betting it was probably stored in a house/garage instead of a barn ðŸ˜ Look forward to the light up. Thanks for sharing ðŸ‘

Stovie-Steve wanted some more pictures on the pamphlets and material that was in the box.  Looks like the only things I may be missing is the spare Q99 generator, Q18 gas tip and the QW wrench.  Also thought it was interesting on the instructions.  It states There are three things that you must do to get satisfactory service from this lantern. 1. Always use a good grade of fresh clean water-white gasoline.  Do not use any of the doped gasoline in Coleman products.  2. Be sure to thoroughly preheat generator coil before opening lantern valve.  3. Clean out the fount of the lantern every few months. This keeps the residue which collects in the bottom of the fount from stopping up the generator.  Enjoy the pictures and thank you for all the comments.  I will be heading back to Maine in October and will have to take another back road or two.
