This was literately 3 minutes from my house. So I had to go get it.

It's dated 2/52. Pretty sure it's a black band, right?

I went for the amber Coleman globe. I figured that was worth the $30 if the rest was junk.

Now the bad. It has a home made bail and one of the holders that the original bail would go into is missing. I guess that's why there is just a piece of wire through the holes in the vent. Could I take just that holder off another frame?

It's fairly rough but for what I think it is I don't think I got hurt for $30. Or did I,,,lol.

Is this a legit black band. Thanks.

2-52 is not only a legitimate BB but it is the first. Some will argue about the 12-51 x-mas lanterns having black frames, which are common and I have one and others have said they found them with black frames and collars but I haven’t seen one yet.

It has the standard amount of rust for a BB.

You can get that clip off another lantern. The 2/'52 will have the short clip, but a grinder will make a long clip into a short one. The trick to getting the clip off is heat--heat it red-hot and bend it with a screwdriver while still red hot. Same for putting it back on, but use pliers.

OCP should have a bail for you. I prefer the used ones as the SS ones don't look right on a vintage lantern.
It's priceless until someone puts a price on it.

Heck you can make a excellent lantern from that. The vent looks like it will clean up nice as well

Yep, BB, complete with what looks like a ceramic burner cap.  Congrats on the amber globe as well!

Yep. You did good. It seems like they all look pretty beat up when you find them. The globe alone was worth it.

Nice find. It's definitely a black band. You got a great deal on a very nice Amber globe, and the lantern was free. There have been a few 12-51 red fount black bands found, but not very many. I tried to get one last year and I got beat up on it, so I let it go.

Ya. I got a 12/51 that we all couldn't agree that it was a black band. Some thought a soot band. But after cleaning it I swear it's a black band. You'd have to see it in person then you would agree,,,lol.

That is a nice black band lantern.  I agree with others and you, the globe is worth what you paid for it.

I think you did well, I recently paid $20 for a amber globe and left the lantern,  the seller wanted $30 for all .. had it been a BB would have paid it also.

I have a 12-51 and it's a Christmas lantern with a black frame, I do remember someone posting a black band from that date.
