No, not a guy named Frank… (No offence to any one named Frank out there!)

Lots of different Appreciation threads out there and more than a couple enthusing about FrankenLanterns, one way or another, but I don’t believe this had been done yet!

We got the “Big Bottom Franks” thread,  and the recent Another Frankie, thread, and what’s not to love about the Picnic Table Lantern thread?  I’m sure there are many more.

But here we award you a membership number!

My first was the 222 an a big fount (about to get It’s fifth and last fount transplant - a 6

I find I have made three of these;21 fount…);

  • The Picnic Table 24275, made from loose parts acquired, inspired by the picnic tale lantern thread;
  • And the 242 on a brass Canadian 200 fount – forced on me as the original found was rusted through… (so I’m going a step further and I changed the vent to an AGM!)
24200 & 222-621.jpg
24275.jpg

I know this is a “Thing” for some, so post ‘em up and say what inspired you to go this route!

And of course, we even have a Motto!  Someone somewhere (probably many someones) will be scratching their heads and saying on this, or another forum in the future  -  “What the #%& is this thing?  Can anyone ID this bizarre lantern?

I want to play too!  Early Akron 103 with a leaking fount found a new home as a CQ/Akron lamptern.  It was an interesting exercise in making thread adapters too.  On these two it seemed to be the same tapered pipe thread, just cut to different depths.  Runs great until I can find a solid 103 fount.

Guess I never thought about giving it a model number. Probably should. Think it fits into the picnic table lantern and fat bottom lantern group tho. It was a fun project for sure.

This is not much of a frank but i just mocked this up today. I call it PARTS AND CABIN FEVER. I was making this for up at my cabin as I thought it would be a nice bright lantern up north this summer. It's made up of a 228 fount 236 valve and collar and 237 frame. I will try to light it up tomorrow. If this qualifies me I guess I'll join.  I like the 222 on what looks like a 321 fount. Been thinking about doing the same thing for the long burn.

I found an overpriced, PO engraved 530 with the case and a dented fount in a small mountain town and took a couple of 220 user lanterns in to see if the owner would trade.  He looked over my lanterns, asked if they worked and I told him yes, I had gone through them and they ran great.  I should have then asked him if the 530 worked.  It didn't!  Damaged and leaking around the pump tube.  Oh well, I wasn't out a lot of money.  The case went off to one member, the frame to another, and the pot supports/cotter pins to a third member.  I kept the valve and generator as a spare for mine.  There was no funnel.  A year later I fiddled with the leak and seemed to be holding so I threw my head back, let out quite the diabolical laugh and began building my frankie.  Had a adapter made, added a 242 valve/burner assembly, and topped it of with a MW vent.  He ain't the best looking frankie but he's my Ugly Frank.  He even has a coffin-like case to hang out in.

The fount is from an early undated no stamp “CQ” lamp.

The burner is an early no stamp “Quick-Lite” Q 70, all Arc lanterns are torch-lite.

The baseplate is from a cut down early 327 frame.

The collar is an early unstamped from an “NL”
323 lantern.

The hood top is a stainless steel mixing bowl

The vent top is a cut down stainless steel flour sifter.

Bale is from a reshaped  kerosene heater.

The loop is from an Akron lantern.

The globe is a 316 and is the only Arc component 😁

Pretty confusing huh ???

I suppose I'll play too. This is my poor man poultry lantern. I built this from the base of an Amish floor lamp, the collar and frame from a 220C, and the burner and vent from a 220E. I built it because I knew that I would never be able to find or afford a poultry lantern. I used the metallic green because I like the look of the metallic 220/228 lanterns that I never had either. Since building this, I found a poultry lantern and a few metallic 220's. It's still my favorite Frankie to this day. Screenshot_20200306-183047-432x864.png  Screenshot_20200306-183042-432x864.png

This is an AGM lamp on a Coleman 427 fount on which the nickle was gone.  I got the shade at an antique store for $7.00.  It does have a crack.

I have a couple of frankies, will have to dig the pictures from my backup drive.
Can't sleep, squirrels will eat me....

If you need a Sun Flame Generator Model 100-107 ( for Sunflame lanterns models 105, 106, 107 and 110) give me a PM, I have close to 80 of those, 15 bucks each.
