My flea market just opened up this past weekend.  There weren't but a handful of vendors there but one of them had this on the back of his truck! It's a 242C lantern marked "7   9" on the base.  It's really in great shape but was missing the generator, generator nut, and oddly, the eccentric block.  I'm not sure why someone would have taken that off but it had to have been done on purpose.

I've already taken it apart, cleaned everything, and put it back together.  It looks great and holds pressure well but I'm still waiting on the parts I need to complete it.  I'll post pictures when I get it running.

The globe was a real heart-breaker - it was the original straight line COLEMAN logo globe.  The seller said he had already sold two red lanterns that morning.  I guess whoever bought them just wanted lanterns and didn't realize what this one was because it certainly would have been the prize of the bunch!  I suppose they could have been burgundy 200As, but then anybody that knew to buy them would have known to buy this too.  Oh well, my gain! Thanks for the comments!  And after rereading my post I realized I wasn't clear - these pictures are from before the cleaning.  The fount and collar cleaned up really nicely but I'm waiting to get it running again before posting the "after" shots.

Well, I received the part I needed from OCP this week and finished up the lantern this morning.  Replacing the eccentric block was a lot easier than I anticipated after reading some of the comments here.  I just put the valve in a vice, unscrewed the tip cleaner nut, and gave it a gentle tug with a pair of pliers.  That backed off the shaft that engages the eccentric block enough to drop the block in place and retighten the tip cleaner nut.  I used a pick to adjust the height of the block so it properly engaged the shaft.  All told, it just took 5-10 minutes.  All that was left was to tie on a mantle and light her up - you can see the results for yourself!

I appreciate all the good information on this site - it was a huge help. Click image for larger version - Name: IMG_2185.jpg, Views: 46, Size: 161.01 KB Click image for larger version - Name: IMG_2183.jpg, Views: 45, Size: 165.44 KB
