Was walking around one of my old haunt that has recently reopened, I don't usually find GPA there but I like to look around, lots of neat stuff.
Then I saw this,
228D 2June20 (1).jpg

kind of rough looking but nickel will grab my attention every time.  It didn't look too bad and "SURPRISE!!!" the price was very right, just $13!  I sure didn't expect that at this place.

228D 2June20 (2).jpg

The bottom of the fount is pretty corroded, so I can't read the date.
228D 2June20 (3).jpg
I did the usual, oiled the pump cup, replaced the fuel cap gasket and flushed the tank.
228D 2June20 (4).jpg  Oh, ya, I think this is the original globe!
228D 2June20 (5).jpg  It holds pressure and burns.  Now that I know it'll work I'll jump in and clean it up.  Picks when I'm done.

I don't find deals like this often, but they do keep me looking!

Thanks for looking, Steve.

I'm betting A '47!

Just because that's my favorite 228D, also acquired at an unlikely shop. I had to pay $2 more than you. Oops--I take that back. I haggled them down to $10 because... I don't recall. Had something wrong with it I knew I could easily fix but looked important.
It's priceless until someone puts a price on it.

That's a bargain for the globe! Speaking of, I believe that predates the lantern it's self. Wouldn't a D be a sunrise?

Cool, man! Yes, nice find, especially for the globe.

Might be able to peek in the fount with a flash light to see the back-side of the date stamping. Timm's prolly not off, or not by much anyhow; my B/'47 228D has a straight line globe.

Thanks all, and yes, I'm going to keep the bail bumper!  Here's some more pics.

Burning bright!  Just a rough clean up. I think I'll have to break it down and take the fount to a buffing wheel to get the shine back.  No luck looking inside the fount for the date.  I love seeing the logo back-lit like that.

Thanks for looking!

That's a real good deal on a real good lantern you got there Steve! Deals like that don't come around to often especially with a custom made bail bumper. Looking forward to seeing it in all its glory when your done.
