Got this in an email.  Wondering if anyone has signed up yet.

Managed payments is the new way to sell and get paid on eBay, providing sellers one place to sell and get paid, and buyers more ways to pay. eBay will manage payments for most sellers in 2020, and your account, antiqueswv, will be activated for managed payments starting late July. To ensure you are ready in advance of the change and that there are no interruptions to your business, you will need to register by July 15, 2020.

What are managed payments???  What the *$^&%#! does that even mean?  I like eBay and I am all for capitalism, but this sounds like yet another way to pick sellers/buyers pockets.  What's wrong with (i) sell an item, (ii) get paid via PayPal, (iii) ship said item?

Good question Courtenay.  Ebay owned profitable Paypal and was pushed to spin it off by investors looking for a quick buck.  Ebay in the past year or two seems to have  been trying to distance themselves from Paypal by making alternative payments available, under the guise that it'll save everyone money.   I don't sell on ebay so haven't seen the message that Warren posted, but it sounds to me a lot like Ebay wants to start another Paypal-like payment system.

Just got an email I had to sign up by the 15th but if I sign up by today, I'd get $50 credit.   My eBay days may be numbered.  They wanted SSN, Birthday, and makes you sign into your bank account.  They say you authorize them to take $ out of your account on disputes, etc.  I have a PP/Ebay only checking account, so that is what I tied to it.  I'm seriously considering dropping eBay.  I sell a lot on Facebook now anyway.

Anyone else forced to sign up to keep listing?

Natures warning sign. Don't do anything with what is in the email, go to the ebay site, log in and see if you can find the same promotion on the official site.

Warren, if it were me and they were going to REQUIRE me to accept them managing my $$ I'd bail.  I'm assuming that is the grab they are making...

I quit selling on Eprey the day they "forced" me to accept PP whether I wanted to or not.  A pack of thieves.  I have other issues with Eprey  as well, but no one, NO ONE, will tell me if I will accept a particular payment type, and NO ONE will ever get access to my bank account with the power to withdraw funds "in the event of a dispute".  I won't even take direct deposit of my pay checks.

Up til then I was accepting USPS MO, certified check, or regular check, with the proviso that a regular check was in my bank two weeks to clear.  I never screwed anyone and no one ever screwed me.  The Feds need to step in and pound PP and all the other "money handlers" just like any other banking service, and make them at least pretend to be honest.

I'm sure at some point they will stray far enough that I'll even stop buying off Eprey...

It was in my eBay Messages also, it is official eBay, but that is a good warning to people.

Thanks for the heads up Warren. Sure do appreciate that. I will keep my eyes peeled for the message. My days may be coming to an end too dealing through Epay.
