If you have had a lantern renickeled, mica from Fred, or vent redone at IPE, do you run these or are they shelf queens after that?

I have some of Fred’s work and I probably use 75% of them.  The rest are on shelf queens that needed a correct reproduction.  I think that if I had something renickeled or a vent redone, I would not use them.

I've had all three and I run 'em.  IPE porcelain seems as good as the original and I've had a number of them done, all for nice runners.  Fred's mica works great for me in my working lanterns such as 327 and Air-Os.  Only had one fount re-nickeled and that was from New England Plating.  It's beautiful and I run it now and then.  The vent on that particular lantern is also from IPE.
Use 'em.  If I had a '66 Mustang Fastback I'd be driving it, I'll tell you that for sure.  What's good for the 'Stang is good for the lanterns.

What Dean says.

What good is it if you can't use it?
It's priceless until someone puts a price on it.

I just got my first mica from Fred and they are beautiful! It just got me thinking about whether people fire them. I have a  vent from a 237 that could use a refresh but didn't know if it was a waste on a hot kero burner. I like to burn my lanterns.

Yes, yes and yes, I use them.  That's why I spent the money on them.

The micas won't suffer. The nickel-plated vents you spent so much time polishing will turn brown on the first firing.

Fred's micas are replacements so have to be used.
I'm not much of a re-nickeler or Re-porceliner so have no input on that

Short answer:

This here's my oldest and my favorite. Both wearing Fred globes. Both have gone camping in rough weather with me. If the Slant ever gets a new vent, yes, that will get used too. I've never understood the idea of making something to specifically not use it.
