I just picked up a 1979 200A in beautiful shape with just a few bumps--I would have said it never had been used, but there was a tiny bit of soot in the ventilator.  But the decal is badly cracked.  It doesn't look like it's been scraped or otherwise damaged, but seems original.  I know automobiles in the late 70s weren't known for their quality...was that the same for Coleman?  Does anyone know if they were having problems with their decals? Or is there something that might have happened during storage?

Thanks!

Steve

You're asking if lantern quality was bad because the decal cracked?

Your decal is original, but if you want to replace it, our host has a period correct repro.

Pretty common for the old water slide decals from late 70’s through 1983.

I was thinking more just of the quality control on decals.  Seems Coleman wouldn't have wanted their logo to look this way!  But I think I'll leave it as is since it's original. Thanks!

Nice find. I like the original, even flawed decals. They are interesting to me. Cracks and all.

Wow!  If there was an ugly decal contest, yours might win!  And I agree with you--now that I know it's original (and not something some bored kid did years ago), I want to leave mine alone.

The majority of my old lanterns have cracks in the decal. Even NOS lanterns in the box have cracks in them. Guess they just shrink a little over time.

That would make sense.  I can't see them leaving the company looking like that.  Thanks!
