Hello Everyone,

I’m brand new to the forum. I don’t know very much about lanterns. I know you add fuel, pump and light them. That’s about it. I recently acquired a Coleman 220J. It is leaking fuel, around the black knob, that you turn 1/4 to light the lantern. Is this a relatively easy fix, for a guy that is inexperienced with lanterns, or should I just ship it off to Coleman, for a repair?  I’m not exactly what you would call mechanically inclined.

Thank you in advance, for taking the time to give a new guy some advice.

Welcome from California Blake!
This is usually an easy fix, just gently snug up the nut behind the valve wheel a little bit at a time until it quits leaking. Don't over tighten or the valve will be stiff.

Hi Blake. Welcome from Western Massachusetts!

Like Joe mentions, usually a simple fix. If you still run into trouble, come on back here for help.

P.S.: The Silk-Lites you sent up made it safe and sound. Thanks again!

Joe and Ridge Runner, thank you so much! That did the trick. I really appreciate your help. Thanks, again!

This lantern was manufactured in November of 1977. I’m really happy to see it fire up. I have good memories of camping with a lantern, just like this, when I was a little boy. Thanks to you guys, it will hopefully be around another 43 years, at least.

That’s one of the the cool parts about these; connecting many of us back to when we were younger and rekindling some good memories.

Enjoy!

LOL Wow, Ridge Runner, it’s a small world. I’ve sold one package of mantles on eBay, in my entire life, and I just happened to sell them to you! I’m glad the mantles made it up to you in good condition. Thanks for your advice and thanks again, for your purchase.
