I have often stated that if the only hunt left to me was final offer, it would be a chukar hunting. For those that have, you know why.  Chukar hunting is a lot like golf, a hundred bad shots, then a great one, and you finally think you have it NAILED!... wrong! A wise man once stated that you only hunt chukar once...after that, you just go back for revenge!

Here's a video clip from an acquaintance of mine of his family's hunts in SE Oregon ( Owyhee River Canyon Breaks ) that I often review just for piece of mind... you might see some Coleman also!

Thanks, enjoyed that. We hunt the little feathered rockets here on Hawaii’s Big Island.

Ugh. The bird that runs up hill and flys down, on the steep and rocky crags, their call laughs at you when you are carrying a deer rifle but silent when you are three-points-of-contact scrambling with your shotgun In the same draw. Lovely critter, the Chukar.

Only hunted them once,  did well, my nonhunting, gun shy dog even retrieved most for me.

Never done chukar hunting only quail, dove and conejo. At this time I won’t be able to go hunting, I need to rest Cooke months or or before I go to manage lifting above 10 pounds and a recoil from my shotgun would be painful. I wish I could  but looks like I’m missing opening season this years.

These are true statements. Brilliant! On a good day hunting, they are great eating too.

The only hunting I've ever done where I expended 4000 calories to shoot a bird that only had 200 calories worth of meat!
If everyone hunted chukar, we would be a nation of athletes!  And we'd be hungry.

Seriously can't wait for the season to start. After years of pointless armed hiking, the last 2 days i got out last season I tried some new spots and ran into good sized numbers of birds both times so hopeful for this season too.

Archery season for them and quail is open now but Chukar is bad enough with a shotty, no way I'm chasing them with my bow. Will be chasing the quail next week though.

I have heard of them over Colorado, the legend goes that somehow they do know the actual range of your gun, and taunt you within a couple of feet of the limits.
Can't sleep, squirrels will eat me....

If you need a Sun Flame Generator Model 100-107 ( for Sunflame lanterns models 105, 106, 107 and 110) give me a PM, I have close to 80 of those, 15 bucks each.

My pup once looked at me after a great shot,  where the bird sailed over the canyon wall and into the depths...no words spoken - simple understanding that " she " wasn't going down there unless I was " going down there! ".... but, that's Chukar hunting! - we went "down there!  Nuthin better then hunting behind your pup! IMG_0402.jpg
