Crazy!!  I guess some are willing to $$$ for a nice display piece. I might have to try to sell my fake one for that kind of money lol.

I realize that I have breached the rules by putting this one up here but hope that it is of some interest to newer members, I am hoping no one here has bid on it without realizing what it actually is, the seller has been perfectly transparent in his description.

Tony I think you are within the forum rules:

5. Do not post live Coleman and related GPA ebay auctions.  Fellow members may be watching
and bidding, intending to acquire an item they desire.
Exceptions include humorously overpriced items and informational posts regarding fakes and
fraudulent GPA items represented as genuine.

I think your's counts at least on 'overpriced' and informational', if not the third whereby the seller is open about the lantern's original state'.

I think there is an exception in the rule for crazy prices and fake stuff so you should be fine.

@25 502s

Jason,

You can't sell that one-of-a-kind, rarer than unicorn tears, only one known in existence Gold Bond 502!  🙂  Well, I guess you could, and now might be a good time.  With the 'homage' one going for so much, I bet someone would like the 502 version as a conversation piece to go along with the lantern.

LOL. I might sell a GB 502 one of these days but knowing now what I do about the lanterns, I would never sell it. I would be afraid the next guy might try to pass it off as a real one and it’s just not worth having that out there.

I don't get it. The ad plainly states that it's a repaint. Either some of the 19 current bidders can't read, or they're willing to pay $640 knowing it's a fake that they can't burn. What was it P.T. Barnum said? "This way to the egress"? Naw, that's not it.

Apparently some folks want it, even knowing it’s not real.  Even though not real, it can help complete a collection.  My dad had one heck of a stamp collection over the 30 years or so he was collecting, and did in fact buy some counterfeits just to have complete series.  However, he did label the counterfeits when he mounted them.  There’s no deception with this ‘Gold Bond’, so this isn’t a buyer beware.

Now, if I could only find a Gold Bond 502.  🙂

Thanks, but I don't think you should.  If you do, there will be two known in existence, and the value of yours may plummet below $500!

Tony is within the guidelines of the CCF.

As a seller, it does seem that some do not bother to read the text and just look at the pretty pictures.

There are at least two Gold Bond 502's, I have one that I painted about 15 or so years ago,
Didn't really think much about it at the time, but it was almost paintless, so it needed some help.
