Ridge Runner
I picked up a new-to-me 426D today. It's in great shape and fired right up with the fuel in the tank.

After puttering around with it I noticed the direction decal, which is in several pieces, can be slid around. Is there any way to set it or am I going to lose it?

After moving it around:

It doesn't take much to slide the decal around and I was able to get it pretty close to where it should be but it isn't permanent. There's a lot of oil on the surface of the tank and I suspect that softened the original adhesive.

Any thoughts? Thanks for looking!

Well, L.J, you could probably coat it with some sort of clear lacquer, which should seal it in place. Dab at it first with a cloth with something in it to clean off the oil, such as some denatured alcohol, or Simple Green, or ???? Just anything mild that may clean it off a bit, done very carefully.  Pat with a clean, dry cloth before applying a sealer.
(I know it sounds as if I'm guessing, which I am, but I would honestly be gingerly trying these things if it were my stove, L.J.)

I’m giving it a shot, Steve. It survived a rinse off in the parts washer (I run mineral spirits in mine) and then gently dabbing with some denatured alcohol on a paper towel.

It looks pretty good, but there’s still some movement if I try to slide it. There really was a lot of oil on the tank and it seems the decal is still “floating” on it.

I’ll see how it lays up after a couple days. If I can seal it and save it, great. If not, well it might just get wiped out during use.

At this point I don’t have much to lose, I guess, so I’ll keep fiddling with it!

Good luck, then, L.J., I certainly understand you wanting to keep it so the fuel tank looks "complete."
