Hey good people
Got back from my kayaking trip from the Missippi headwaters 2 days ago.  Started at lake Itasca in Northern MN and spent 24 days paddling.  I will post a few pictures when I go through them all.  Suffice to say it was the trip of a lifetime.  I figure it was about 470 miles.

Awesome!  That is an accomplishment especially doing it alone.  I’m looking forward to the pictures.

Typical campsite

Had to do a fair amount of portaging around several dams

My view of the river

Walleye for supper
Fauns1.jpg
Mama and 2 fauns.  I saw lots of wildlife.
Stoves1.jpg
My three stoves, 4 dog stove, Kelly kettle, and Coleman.  I only used the Coleman when everything was damp.  The Kelly kettle was used more than anything else, for food as well as water processing.

I will put out a few more pics later and some thoughts about the trip.

Do you have a water filter or rather boil water to enable safe drinking?  I'd get a woodstove, but we seem to have a small window to use one here in Kalifornia.  Either the wood is too damp still or conditions don't allow a fire.

Nice; I'm envious.  Did you get down as far as Camp Ripley?
You may have read this book about going in the other direction?  A classic. cree.jpg

I did have a water filter, but did not use it.  I also had iodine tincture, but did not use that either.  I carried about 1.5 gallons of water, and if I was near a source of tap water I would tank up.

I went right along side of Ripley, There was considerable amount of guns (artillery or tanks) booming all morning long. I ended my trip in the northern metro suburb of Anoka.  Some friends, family, and members of my scout troop all came out to see me come in.

Been thinking about doing another 500 miles next summer.  I will be retired then, so time will not be so critical.

Nice Trip, here's a second on the Kelly Kettle. I'm headed for a 2 week solo up in Canada and I'm only taking the Kelly Kettle.
