Sorry for being late to the party, but I'm just now getting around to trying some the "new" mantels from India. Probably not a very scientific test since all three lanterns are of different models. Anyway the mantels formed nicely but the ash does seem to have a yellowish tint to them. mantel.jpg

once again not a very controlled test since I used three different lanterns and keep in mind the mantel on the 200A has been on for over two years now and the mantels on the 288 have been on over a year.

I'd be interested in how long they last after burn in.  Some, like the old silk-lites are pretty rugged and last, even while traveling, and some of the off brands I've tried crumble if you cough on the other side of the room.
I guess I'm not one who needs retina searing brightness from my lanterns.

Was there any mention on the packaging that the mantles are for Europe and North America use?

These were listed as North America use. I agree SteveA, durability will probably be more important to me in the long run as well.

May have spoke too soon Zoomkat, the packaging says “Made for European and American markets”
the UPC code is 689446111992
i can’t seem to get a pic posted at the moment but I will keep trying.

I’ve been somewhat satisfied with the Peerless 24-A’s and the 111’s from India. The Peerless 2C-HG’s from India I’m not impressed with. Maybe they’ll get it dialed in soon. I love the size of the 2C-HG’s. My complaint with the 2C-HG’s is they look dirty and yellow after burning them in. They look better after running a few times but still look unpleasant. I’ve had better luck with the Coleman 21’s but I’m hoping Peerless gets the issues addressed soon.

I would have to agree on the peerless 2C-HG's looking a dirty yellow after burn in but same with the 111's I've used as well. It doesn't bother me any though. The 111's seem tougher than the 24A's and I don't notice much of a difference in size or brightness. I've had no problems with Coleman mantles either so I guess it depends on the batch!

More results, which actually shocked me......I tried to make this more of an even comparison by using all 200A's this time.
In order, Silk Lite, Old Peerless, New Peerless, Coleman 21

Silk Lite     IMG_0532.jpg  IMG_0538.jpg

Old Peerless    IMG_0533.jpg  IMG_0540.jpg

New Peerless    IMG_0534.jpg  IMG_0541.jpg

Coleman 21   IMG_0535.jpg  IMG_0542.jpg

In order L to R   IMG_0543.jpg  IMG_0544.jpg

The old Peerless didn't seem to perform as usual in this test and the only thing that I can think of is possibly lantern performance or the the age of the old Peerless mantel, it's had probably over a dozen burns on it. All three of the other mantels were brand new and on their second burn. Very surprised at the performance of the Coleman 21, must have been a good batch.
Thanks for looking.

Conclusion that's intuitively obvious to the most casual observer:
Burn'm (whichever) If You Got'm!

To take the lantern differences out of the equation you could just pick one and swap your burners over. Would take more time off course. But would lessen the variables. Thanks for the results! Very interesting

That silk-lite looks like it has a pretty coarse weave to it. How old would those ones have been? The packaging doesn't look too old. Have you tested any hi-power mantles? I have a bunch of them in the paper envelopes but I don't have the guts to use any right now 😂

Not sure on the Silk Lite Dan, it is the first one I’ve ever used. It was in the bottom of a case that was given to me, the package was already opened with only one mantle remaining so I thought I would give it a try. But I agree, after looking at the packaging I’m guessing it was the last of the Silk Lites before Coleman changed to the Gold Top’s, late 80’s early 90’s possibly???

I thought of that as well Toby but wanted to be able to have a side by side photo as well. I still may take the time to try it and maybe use a new “old” peerless mantle to even the playing field.
