2018 ICCC Southwest Gathering Campout

Open to ICCC Members, and Coleman Collecting Friends are also welcome.

Place:                    Luna Lake Campground, Group Site-A in Apache-Sitgreaves NF-FS, Arizona.

Dates:                  Arriving Thursday, September 6th, 2018 at 2:00 P.M.

Thursday, Friday, & Saturday (Length of Stay: 3 Nights).

Checkout:           Sunday, September 9th, 2018 at 12:00 Noon.

Details:                 Luna Lake Campground Group Site-A has been reserved for our use and is up in the pines near Luna Lake which is located about 3 miles east of Alpine, just north of U.S. Highway 180 in the eastern side of the Arizona White Mountains.  This is an established campground with a Ramada, picnic tables, cooking grills, fire pit and clean restroom facility.  There is room for up to 120 people, 30 vehicles and camping spots for tents and trailers.  It’s a great site for camping, a little fishing, and of course Coleman Lanterns and stoves!

You can see more information on camp policies, general rules, and accessibility on the Luna Lake website at http://www.recreation.gov or contact Al Cerino at 480-229-9087 or Mel Taylor at 575-621-7747.

Please send Al Cerino an Email at outbackaz@hotmail.com if you are planning to attend or need more information.  It would be nice to see who is interested in coming.

Regards,

Hope to make it Al. Spent many summers in those parts with grandpa. We used to hit Bill Evans and the fish hatchery in Glenwood on the way up, do the the Catwalk Trail and catch fish in the pools by hand! Back then we set Camp at Luna and if the fish weren't biting head over to Big Lake or even up to Snow Lake! Lots of good memories in that country.

Count Me In I've never been in the area a friend of mine at work has a cabin up in Alpine and he says you don't want to eat the fish out of Luna Lake. I will expand more as I as I talk to him tomorrow. would also be interested in any gatherings in Southeastern Arizona say the chiricahua mountains or somewhere in that area.okay I found out that due to the proximity of the leach field from nearby septic tanks that it's not a good idea to eat the fish out of Luna Lake if you do so you do so at your own risk
that's according to the people that have cabins in the area near Luna Lake.
Gas is what you use for washing parts diesel is for making power!
Looking for any lantern date of 5/63
Have you ever stopped to think and forget to start again!!

I am interested!  Perfect weekend-the one right after Labor Day weekend.  I like to go on trips the weekend before or after a holiday weekend.

I love the White Mountains.  Grew up camping at Hawley & Big Lakes and a few other places on the WMAT Rez.

How far to the water from the campsite?

I'm getting back into camping again.  Had one family trip last Sept at Fools Hollow Lake for 2 nights.

My husband is NOT into camping and I'm not comfortable going by myself yet safety reasons.

It's more fun with a group anyway.

Mel,

I checked out Cooney's tomb....
41445839_1988289741229641_894085983413207040_n.jpg
And then hit Mogollon. Awesome 1 lane road out there. I was really tempted to continue out, but between gas money and the way my back was feeling, I needed a real bed to sleep in and get some real rest.

Robert,

I love that area where Cooneys tomb is at,the canyon at the end of the road is absolutely beautiful, there is so much history there, there are still remnants of the town of Cooney about a mile back in, as well as a bunch of mining remnants. We spent a lot of time up there when I was growing up.
