I found an amber globe on a lantern this weekend and the price was a lot lower than expected. When I turned it around I saw that it had a crack all the way from the top to the bottom. My question is, would you even consider buying that since it is amber or would you walk away? How Important to you is it to find an amber globe? Does damage make a difference to you?  I realize some folks with a closet full of them would not be interested, but if you didn't have one or many would you get it? I have walked past many blue line ambers because the price was way too high or I just didn't want another 220.

That amber globe money brought home a slant instead, so I am glad I left it behind.

Depends on price of course( I would pay $10-12 max if it is a clean crack). Seller would probably sell real cheap I would imagine.

If it is a clean crack you can put a thin bead of super glue on the crack and then let it dry.  Scrap any areas with any excess glue.  Should be sealed and ready to light.  It has worked for me on 2 globes.  A member here told me about it.

i have a few amber globes of all sizes and love them.

You can usually get a better deal on eBay if you buy one on a 220.  I got a NIB 220(my wife's birthday lantern) with a new amber globe on it for less than $30 shipped in the past year.  I saw one go on a 220 for less than $35 shipped in the last 2 weeks on eBay.  They come up regularly.

broken or damages glass is practically worthless . it may be usable but has no value .

Yeah, Steve stated it well.  For me, a cracked globe has the same value as no globe.

As far as amber globes to use are concerned, I do have a Coleman one, but prefer the MIC ones because the MIC ones are actually a beautiful amber color and not the washed out yellow look of the Coleman ones.

Thanks Andy, a 220. I asked because the 228 apparently is tougher to find but hey - any Slant is a good Slant.

Very cool Andy. It looks like you were rewarded for walking away from the cracked globe.

Chuck I actually found 228 slant just after I started this. I didn't know what it was other than a 228. they wanted $65 and it had about 5% of the porcelain left on the vent, 5 big dents in the font, a bent frame, missing cap and bent burner tube. I left it behind, it seemed like too much work for me at that time.

I don't think so. Normally I wouldn't consider buying cracked globes. I saw a nice amber globe that unfortunately was cracked. I hadn't planned on buying it, but it made me wonder if people felt any different about a cracked amber as a user. Most of the ones I have found in the wild were ridiculously priced.

I would think a seller would part with a broken globe for basicly nothing, which would make it attractive to me.

I would not buy a globe to resell, but for me a cracked amber would make a great user, I have several superglued globes and use them.
