I have two of these torn apart awaiting restoration. One has the bail that goes around the vent and the other goes up through the vent. I like the latter one better. The "flash chrome" they used comes off very easily, and both of my founts are almost bare brass. I'm going to try nickel plating at home (it would cost me both arms and legs to send them off).
I'm missing the rack from one of my generators. I took the generator out of another lantern, and the rack is only pressed on, so it must have come off and stayed in the lantern. The only problem is, I took the generator out, and then sold the lantern at a Great Lakes gathering! [computer] Do you guys think Deanofid could make me one?

Perhaps you could add some photographs of your lanterns.

These scans show two 1916 adverts for Akron outdoor lamps and in my opinion, they are worth looking out for, Jeff.

Here's basically two lanterns minus one fount and vent. I believe the one with the bail that goes up through the vent is older.

The burners are different, one is early, the other later, I think the curved one is older.
P1040886.JPG
Here's the generators. The one on the right needs the rack; the rack on the other one is crimped on.

This vent is from the older one; it's missing its top piece. Unlike the lanterns on Terry's site that have dark green vents, this one is the light Akron green!

Hello, I just picked up an Akron 134G just like yours and was looking for some guidance in taking it apart to clean and polish. Since you've completed the process you could guide me.

Will it burn Coleman white gas, the documents I've read said gasoline or kerosene. I also need to know what type of replacement globe I can buy. Looks like i will have to bend my own bail.

Thanks for your help in advance.

Hello Garry, Yes it does burn Coleman fuel, that's what I use in mine. It supposedly does also burn kerosene but I would just stick to white gas. There is another member here recently trying kerosene in his and has been having trouble. There are a few other posts here recently about the 134G so you may want to have a look at those as well.  I'd be happy to help guide you through this. Just go slow.
You'll get it working. You may also want to start your own thread in Technical Assistance that way you'll have other members with knowledge of these to help you as well. You can ask as many questions as you want and will get good answers for sure.

I need the complete assembly for a 134g. Beautiful lantern that has Coleman parts exchanged. If you know someone that has one that is trashed but a good burner and valve assembly please contact me.

My wife got me a 134 yesterday!  DANG--this thing is a monster:

[39358012990_f5d09e5890_b]

I've never seen a larger lantern ever: and what is the heck capacity of that fount?!?!?!?  Yeah, he-man is correct, I think these would've been ideal for SAR-work (search and rescue).  I have yet to dig into it, but can't wait to do so...

Great Find. Until I found the one I have, I had never seen one before. According to the old ad's, the fount holds 3 pints. The chrome plating is pretty weak on these so go gently while cleaning it and you may be able to save some of it. Have fun with it. Show some pics when you get it fired up.

I'm thinking I'll paint the bottom silver, and farm-plate the top of the fount: my mother grew up on a farm in Iowa during the Great Depression and a cheap and easy way to return a luster to plated things is to burnish them with aluminum foil; hence farm plating!

One of these days I'll find the courage/energy to tear into this one:

[5039822258_77aef6316d_b]

[5039821962_3c97b40025_b]

While not an Akron product, it's not a Coleman either [smile] which is very important, and like the 134, it's big and brutal and totally he-man.  BTW: he-man is actually a phrase my wife and I always use to describe high quality vintage outdoor gear...

A real He-man lantern. But the burner is the same as their 220 sized lantern (132).
I just bought one from Cigar Mike. wrap around bail.
