Yard/barn sale today. Guy had a pile out by the road mentioned a NIB lantern in the barn. Ended up being profane. His father was in the barn and mentioned he had an old Coleman in the basement. Pops open the bilco doors and back out with this.
left him my number as he has a few more at his house. I almost didn’t stop. It’s a half mile from my house.
Thank you
Kevin

Even with the OL’s cheaters the tag is illegible. Printing is much smaller that any other AGM I have here. Tag and frame almost appear steel and Parkerized. Doesn’t look like this was ran much at all!

Zee fount is steel. I’m working on some honey do today. Check valve is leaking, empty fount haven’t looked to close but no visible cracks. Frame, rest and burner assembly May have been painted. No time right now to dig deep. Also fighting burns from the Akron 134 the other night. I need to take the less hazardous approach to fettling/running gpa. Stuff gets real very quickly!

Please be safer then me!
Thank you!

Operator error but the lack of a valve stop must have had some people eating flames back in the day. At least I didn’t get a face full!

That's cool one. I haven't seen the art deco vent on a mil-spec before.

That's a nice 3927 with milspec burner. Is the fount marked US?  Luckily those are steel founts

Hi Kevin.
Good catch. 👍
You made me curious and I looked at my lantern (one of the many on the to-do list 😓)
Mine has no tag but I think it's a 3927 as well with quadrant globe, marked US underneath the fount and also has the Aladdin conversion kit, stamped 1944.
The reflector is a later addition.
Let's see some progress on yours. 😁

Ouch!  That's why I always have my trusty wet bath towel and metal waste basket handy.  I've experienced a nice stream of flame from a failed valve bushing, but never backed one all the way out!  You got lucky.

Mike and Erwin

Here it is with a minimal dust off. The fount is stamped US but with minimal research I’m thinking this is late 40’s? The fact that it has no parts well seems to contradict it being a factory made milspec? I have at least one early Milspec without a parts well. I recall it being dated 1944 and perhaps the parts well started in 1945. Those are at my shop so I cannot review till tomorrow.
I have a number of other lamps and lanterns in the cue that should be gone through before this but maybe I’ll announce Milspec week and tear into the pile of those. My current focus is lamps and shades and shade purchases have crushed my GPA budget! There are value shades out there but recently I’m not finding them!
Thank you
Kevin

After working on electrical project yesterday the blisters swelled to the point of needing to be popped. What a relief that was though it was temporary. Feels much better this morning. My wife pointed out the burn on my shirt!🤦‍♀️

Kevin,
Terry Marsh states on his SITE (very bottom), that this lantern was made into a MilSpec with an Aladdin conversion kit.
That's exactly what I have. No parts well.
I'm confused about the vent holes, though. Yours seem to have the usual AGM pattern, whereas mine looks like a Coleman 220 vent. 😳

I was googling yesterday and found a discussion on the CPL that I can not find right now.  Neil responded regarding the Art Deco Milspec. I’ll keep digging and post the link.

BTW It didn’t take much to break this one down, thank you for the motivation. Parts soaking in citric as we speak. The fuel air pickup was one of the cleanest I’ve pulled.

Small hiccup in that one of the pump cap screws head was missing. Was able too twist it out from the inside with a pair of needle nose pliers. Only took 5-10 minutes. C48F6357-A4FD-44B4-917E-9225133EEEF7.jpeg

I have one of those with a 220 style vent. Best running and easiest lighting milspec of the bunch here. I love the vent on yours, E.

So I’m curious if this was previously painted back in the day? Seems a shinny burner frame and rest would contradict military standards! Before I reassemble I’d like to know if any others have been found semi gloss black. Bail, frame and rest

Thank you

I’m outa citric and the only thing left to clean up is burner frame, I’ll try with the diluted remains of what I put in a one gallon container once burner assembly come out. I actually 5 G of evaporust but the new containers don’t have pour spout. I’m not convinced this wasn’t pakerized or painted from factory but I’ve found no examples as such in all my googling.
Those scabs are not gonna be  pretty but hydraulic oil at work will keep em soft.

Kevin,  that's a cool find and it's great that you may get more!

But on the burn.  get an Aloe leaf and squeeze the gel inside directly on burns as soon as possible.  If you don't have a plant, go buy one (you can keep them in a sunny window in snow country), as the "Gel" sold in drugstores in almost useless.

I scalded my hand with boiling water, and while cool water on to helped, as soon as the water was off, It hurt - LOTS;

Same results with Aloe gel...

As soon as I put the real Aloe on it was instant relief!  AND it healed without blisters.  So cool water to cool the skin; then Aloe within minutes.  It's Bloody Magic

SWMBO just did the same thing the other day with boiling water - The Aloe did the trick there as well.

i used Kool-Aid for some time before i started using citric :-) and you thought kool-aid was just for kids LOL it works better than you might think but can turn your hand purple or green depending on what flavor you use LOL so i ended up using lemon aid flavor . its only like 24 cents ,
