I'm trying to get a lantern, It's either the 200 or 200A from what I can tell, repaired, and as someone completely new to this, I have a few questions. First of all, from what I can tell, the air stem is supposed to fit inside of the pump, and be able to slide freely. On my lantern, it is rusted onto the pump. Would the fix for this just be order a new air stem and pump? I also think I messed up, and partially pulled the generator apart, where paper wrapping a coil of wire inside flaked off. I would guess that is another thing to just replace, but I could be wrong. Is there anything else to check, or some other maintenance I should perform on it? Soak that pump shaft and air stem in a penetrating oil for a day or two, then screw the air stem into the check valve in the pump tube and give the knob a few good jerks. If that doesn't free it up, heat the shaft up to smoking hot and quench with P oil a few more times and repeat. I've yet to fail to get one out.

The generator is repairable. You can buy the "cardboard" tube from our sponsor, OCP, or you can use brass wool or copper solder wick to replace it.

Do some more searching around here for things like 'generator rebuild" and "replacing fuel cap gasket" and save yourself some time and woe.

When you do get the pump working and the cap gasket replaced, put the valve back in, close it and pump the fount up good and hard. Dunk the fount in a bucket of water and look carefully for bubbles. I don't like the looks of the rust on that.

Okay, should the pump cup be removed when soaking it, or does it not matter? Also, does the type of penetrating oil matter, or would something like wd 40 work?

WD40 displaces water well, that's about it. Try something a bit more hairy like Kroil or PB Blaster. 

The pump leather can take the penetrating oil but not the heat. 

I also have reservations about how sound that fount it. Like Timm says, test it and you'll know.

Right!   That fount looks scary, though I have seen some like that that are still pristine inside.  Using a brake cylinder hone can clean off any rust in the pump tube.
