Has anyone ever seen a reflector like this for a 285. 288, 286 size lantern? Or is this some custom fit piece? Either way it's nice looking and if this wasn't so far away it would probably be with me.

Sort of hard to see, but looks custom.  Might even be just a bowl with the center cut out. [sCo_idk]

I didnt realize it made the image so small, I put up a better one. And I agree there are lots of salad bowl shades out ther, but this lantern is unified or fired very little, surprised they would make a reflector and not use it.

Yes, much better picture, Mike!
Too bad it's too far away; do you think someone could get it for you? Maybe worth a try? That's a special date...

You don't mention the price, but if you just want the lantern, they may deal on that as the shade probably could be put on another new lantern (looks like they are amazon junkies).

Hmmm, your son's b'day lantern with cool custom shade, I see that lantern in your future.

If you get it post some more pics of that reflector please. I'd like one of those.

A few years ago there was a company that made stainless steel reflectors for lanterns.  They made two styles, the halo type, as in your photo, that fit under the vent and reflected the light downward; and a vertical type that fit between the cage and the globe and reflected the light outward.  They were marketed mostly to ice fishermen for use in ice shanties to provide better downlighting.

I’m trying to come up with a Smarta$$ remark for unified but it’s Monday and I’m drawing blanks.  But I do like that reflector.

Hey Bill, great info! Any chance you can recall the name of the company?
I'm from North Dakota and have always loved ice fishing and subsequently midwestern ice fishing history/paraphernalia is always of interest.

Anyone here dark house spear for pike, or make pike decoys?

Dark house spearfishing is quite dependant on the sunshine, been scratching my head about ways to overcome this when it's dark here dang near half the year... This may be the ticket, at least worth a try to cast light down into an icy hole... Batteries don't last long at 40 below
