I've got two Coleman 550 stoves. Being a stovie I am curious about the span of years these things were made and how many models and variations exist,  etc.  I looked at the ICCC  site and they don't show this model at all. Too new, perhaps? I think my Peak 1 is a 550 and not a 550A or 550B, but then, I don't know if they even made a 550A. Mostly, I'm trying to get an idea of the years of manufacture for each model and see how many model variations there are.

So, I'm asking for some voluntary participation. Would stove owners post the the model, year, country, color and pump retainer type of their 550 stoves? Photos would be nice too, of course. I'll try to tally them up periodically.

Here's what I have to get started:
Model 550 Peak 1, Date = 1-88, Color = Silver, Made in Canada, metal pump retainer
Model 550B Exponent, Date = 8-05, Color = Copper, Made in USA, plastic pump retainer

The original 550 Peak 1 stoves don't seem to have a date stamped into the fount. So, I'm curios if anyone has one with a date earlier than 1/88.
550 Peak 1 with date = 1/88 (It has this part number on the label (550C499)
Oldest 550B Peak 1 = 7/90
Newest 550B Peak 1 = 6/3
Oldest 550B Exponent = 8/03
Newest 550B Exponent = 2/06

So far, it looks like they switched from Peak 1 to Exponent in July 2003. A more complete list is below.

Later on 02SEP20, I did a little more searching and found There are at least these 550 Peak 1 labels:

550_Label_4_B.jpg  550_Peak1_Label_Plain_B.jpg
550_Label_F.jpg

Also the original 550 Peak 1 stoves came with a separate valve and generator instead of just the generator. The kero uses the straight pickup tube as you'd expect.

I also saw a 550A manual, but unfortunately the date on the stove wasn't shown, but that leads me to believe that there is a 550A model somewhere. Just haven't seen one yet as far as I know:

Here is my list so far:

This one is a 550B, dated 08/03, made in USA, copper color, plastic pump retainer.  I have a silver "Peak 1" 550 somewhere, and I can't freaking find it.  Now it's making me mad

@Kansas John could you specify which one in your list match the photos? I'm trying to relate the label to the stove model.

@Smudge could you look and see if your stove has a vertical model number on the label?

@Kansas John My stoves from Lancaster also arrived today. Couldn't believe how cheap they can ship them! Pretty cool having an export stove(s).

Thanks for updating.

There's no vertical model number, but there is a smaller horizontal number: 550F467

This is what I like to see! I only have one noted on my date list, a 1/96 550B. No details on this one because they really aren't on my radar. The reason they aren't on the ICCC list is that the list uses catalog dates, and I don't know who has a collection of Peak1 catalogs - I only have a couple of them. Peak1 products were rarely shown in the regular Coleman "Outing" catalogs that listed most products.

Here is what I have. The first two are photos that you do not have.

The first is marked 550-499 on the front, but the decal on the side is showing it is  550A-467 and made in Canada. There is no date. This one has the cotton type fiber between the burner and the outside burner cover. This model is the only one that I have see with this. This stove is unfired.

10/95 Silver 550B with the military catalog number sticker
07/90 Silver 550B with aluminum pump cap

@MotorcycleDan  did you mean it was the only one marked 550a or that had the primer material below the burner?  the first one I listed has the cotton material, more pictures below.  I bought this from Rubing a year or so ago.

John,

I was just referring to the cotton material on the early model. It seems that when they went to the B designation on the main label, not the small print one on the side like yours, they did away with the cotton material.

Steve,

It took me a while, but I finally got around to digging out my least favorite stove, a 550B.   This was unfired when it was given to me, but indications are that it fell off a vehicle traveling down the highway before I got it, and is how the PO got it.

I wonder if there is some way to decode what the label means when it says 550G467? Mine say 550C... from 1988. But when it actually spells out Model there's either 550 - no letter or 550B. Is it just the label that was going through revisions and there's only two actual models of the stove? Or, does it indicate minor revisions to something about the stove itself? Hmmm......

@MotorcycleDan thanks for posting that close-up photo of the one with the Model number above the PEAK1 logo. I couldn't see what was written there in the other photos I found.

Here’s my other two that live at work.  Looks like my 10/95 fell off the same truck as Jim’s!

exponent:  550B, 550-464, 10/03, USA, copper, plastic pump and lanyard.

Peak1: 550B, NSN sticker, 550G467, silver, 10/95, USA, plastic pump and lanyard.

Could the “G” in the 10/95s mean government?  The NSN is a government sticker, I believe.
